Royal Leamington Spa Is a Medium-Sized Town in Warwickshire, in the Heart of the English Countryside Royall Leamiington Spa – an overviiew Royal Leamington Spa is a medium-sized town in Warwickshire, in the heart of the English countryside. It has a fine Georgian town centre and a spa in the Royal Pump Rooms. Leamington Spa also has one of the finest local shopping centers. Leamington is one of a group of Warwickshire towns to the South-East of Birmingham (the UK's second largest city). The others are Stratford-upon-Avon (birthplace of Shakespeare), Warwick (home to probably the finest castle in Britain) and Kenilworth (a smaller, more genteel, castle town). Ten miles to the north we have the city of Coventry, home to Jaguar cars. To the south we have the Cotswolds with attractive towns like Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh and Bourton-on-the-Water less than an hour's drive away. In the summer, Leamington is always amongst the leading contenders for the "Britain in Bloom" award with everything from the parks to roundabouts and the fire station decked out with flowers. Leamington Spa has two cinemas, a theatre, a ten pin bowling, free tennis courts, disc golf, a municipal golf course, a library and art gallery and a leisure centre including a large swimming pool. How to fiind us Regular buses run from Coventry, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon to Leamington. Leamington Spa has a well-served train station. Here are some examples of direct train services. • 1h 40m from London (Paddington or Marylebone) • 45 mins from Birmingham (Snow Hill, Moor Street or New Street) • 20 minutes to Birmingham International Airport • 45 mins from Oxford • 15 mins from Coventry www.sprachenmarkt.de, Tel: +49-711-45 10 17 370, [email protected] Distance by coach Birmingham 30 mins East Midlands 55m London Gatwick 1hr 55m London Heathrow 1h 40m London Stansted 1hr 45 mins Luton 1hr 30m Leamiington Spa as a home stay centre Leamington Spa is ideally suited to a home stay centre as it is safe, friendly, not crowded with other teenage groups and a suitable size that students can feel at home quickly and find their way around but without getting bored. It has a wealth of fun, interesting and stimulating excursion sites on its doorstep which can be included into our tuition and tourism programmes to help the students learn English and support subjects in their school curriculum at home. We also offer day excursions to places a little further afield but still within 2 hours by coach to Oxford, Cambridge, Bath, London, Chatsworth House, The Cotswolds and The National Space Centre in Leicester. Most students can be placed in the town centre and be less than 20 minutes walk from the tuition centre. If this is not the case the student will be supplied with a bus pass to cover the cost of their travel. This is included in the price of the programme and students are given help finding their way around and getting used to using the bus system. Courses offered Short stay – 4/5 days 1, 2 and 3 week closed group courses for tourism only and tuition and tourism programmes. Specialist closed group courses for students studying drama. Summer camp programmes for individuals and groups. Course detaiills We accept group of 12 – 48 students aged from 12 years. The courses always include full board accommodation with home stay families and excursions and can also include tuition usually for 15 hours per week. Home stay accommodation is for students placed individually, in pairs, threes and fours – as requested. Teaching ratio is 1:12 unless otherwise requested by closed groups but never more than 1:15. Free teacher places on a ratio of 1:15. Transfers from Birmingham Airport but we also use other airports. Nearest train station is Leamington Spa. www.sprachenmarkt.de, Tel: +49-711-45 10 17 370, [email protected] Tuiitiion Methodology We teach in a natural way and you learn through speaking, this is called the Communicative Method which is how most of our courses are structured. We use task and topic based exercises, information exchanges, debating and discussions, drama, craft, art and cookery. You will work in small groups, in pairs or individually. You can practise your English pronunciation, intonation and accent in a natural environment. Most classes focus on fluency, giving you a practical understanding of the language and how to use it. You will use the 4 skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Teachers Our teachers are all professional and friendly and can help you expand on lesson topics helping you to increase your vocabulary, work on your grammar, improve your sentence construction and allow you to express yourself in the correct way. Our teachers aim to make sure that you learn as much as possible in a short time. They are there to help you reach your full potential and we do that by really getting to know you. Our teachers provide useful and interesting lessons, all of which are taught in a fun and relaxed way. Your teachers will guide you, support you, build your confidence and give you feedback. Our teachers are all native speakers so you will be able to listen to authentic and different accents. Lessons There is no substitute for practice. The more you practise listening and speaking the easier it gets and the more your confidence improves. We can help you with this by: 1. Our school is not in an area where there are lots of foreign speakers so you will have maximum exposure to natural and useful language. 2. We have activity programmes that encourage use of language outside the classroom. We offer free student support sheets for all our excursions. 3. Your home-stay family will encourage and help you to speak English. 4. We offer a library of materials to take home to practise the English learnt in class and encourage students to read to learn and practise new vocabulary and grammar structure. 5. Student social evenings help you to learn about and enjoy your new surroundings and make friends. Our lessons are designed to be relaxed and fun. This will help you to feel more confident using English and you will learn to love speaking English. We are a small school which does not have any one dominant nationality. A good mix of nationalities is important to help maximise your learning experience. It is also wonderful to have a chance to meet people from all over the world. Our tuition rooms are well lit, spacious, clean and well equipped. The resources have been designed to enable adult learning tutors to organise a local heritage project, comprising four 3-hour workshops, based on the correspondence of Edward Willes, a 19 th century Leamington landowner. The letters were transcribed by local volunteers, supported by the Leamington History Group, and are held at the Warwickshire County Record Office. 2 Edward Willes and his Leamington Legacy The Willes family first obtained the Newbold Comyn estate, close to the small village of Leamington Priors, in the late 16 th century.
