WILDCARDS ADDED TO GORESBRIDGE TAKES Twenty-three wildcards have been added to the July 24 CENTRE STAGE Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale which, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, will take place at Park Paddocks in Newmarket this year rather than Fairyhouse in Ireland. The breeze is scheduled for the Rowley Mile on July 22. Among the wildcards are lot 227, a No Nay Never half-brother to stakes winner We Are Ninety (Ire) (Thewayyouare); lot 230, a filly by red hot second-season sire Night Of Thunder (Ire) out of a full-sister to G3 Gladness S. winner Sruthan (Ire) (Arakan); lot 248, a Kodiac (GB) filly whose dam is a half-sister to the Listed Hilary Needler Trophy winner Geesala (Ire) (Barathea {Ire}) and the listed-placed Tomintoul Singer (Ire) (Johannesburg); lot 250, a Shalaa (Ire) colt whose dam is closely related to Dabirsim (Fr) (Hat Trick {Jpn}) and is also from the family of Sea Of Class (Ire) ( {Ire}) and her slew of over-achieving sisters; lot 251, a Siyouni (Fr) brother to two listed-placed winners; lot 253, Investec Oaks second Ennistymon looks to go a filly by exciting young sire Make Believe (GB); and lot 254, an one better on Saturday | Racing Post American Pharoah filly who is the second foal out of the listed- winning Innocent (Grand Slam).

Aidan O=Brien will be looking to bring down more barricades on Saturday as he chases the record of Sir Michael Stoute in The Curragh=s G1 Juddmonte Irish Oaks. With five wins in the mile- and-a-half Classic, he sits one shy of the tally wracked up over the decades by the Newmarket-based legend and it will be no surprise were he to join him in 2020. Four fillies contest the latest renewal from Rosegreen, with Evie Stockwell=s G1 and G2 Ribblesdale S. runner-up Ennistymon (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) the current standard-bearer on that form. TDN AusNZ: Physical type, race performance and pedigree are ON THE FARM WITH all important criteria when selecting stallions, but if there were ANTHONY MITHEN one you'd prioritise over the others, what would it be and why? AM: In an ideal world they would have all three and it=s almost like 'would you stand a horse without them?' and probably I wouldn=t. A case in point for us is Strasbourg and putting a question like this into practice. It was the physical type that really got me over the line with him, he=s such a beautiful horse and if he=s a black cat having black kittens then everyone is going to make a lot of money out of him. He=s a magnificent specimen and that got me--he=s a $750,000 son of I Am Invincible and then throw in a race record that includes a Group 2 win and his pedigree is okay without being splashed with Group 1 winners all over the page, it=s acceptable. He=s got five stars on physical and that probably answers the question in terms of what=s most important to me, but you do have to have a blend to make a successful stallion.

Anthony Mithen | Bronwen Healy TDN AusNZ: Looking ahead to the next few years, are there any changes to your business model you're planning and what is by Paul Vettise your process for reviewing how your business is placed? TDN AusNZ continues its series in which we quiz Australasian stud identities about their operations, backgrounds and AM: We would like to position ourselves in the market as being thoughts on the wider industry. Today, we chat the Victorian leader with stallions and we=re going to take steps with Rosemont Stud=s Anthony Mithen. Rosemont=s stallion to make that happen and look for partners to support us in that. roster was boosted by the arrival last year of Shamus Award, That=s something we=re excited to push on within the next 12 who will stand at $19,800 inc GST in 2020 and Starspangled- months. banner at the same fee. Newcomer Strasbourg will stand at an introductory fee of $11,000 inc GST, Starcraft (NZ) will be offered at $8800 inc GST and Nostradamus at $5500 inc GST.

TDN AusNZ: Service fees have been announced, how are you finding the response to your roster given the current economic uncertainty?

Anthony Mithen: We haven=t really had to alter things too much. Shamus Award deserved a little tickle upwards given the job he=s doing. He=s the best-performed Victorian stallion on stakes winners to runners and I think anything under $20,000 is great value. He=s found his mark and proving to still be very popular. The other stallions are at competitive prices given where the market is at and I think everyone has taken it on board to give mare owners opportunities to make a quid without over-extending. TDN AusNZ: What is the biggest challenge facing your business TDN AusNZ: Who currently in the industry do you look toward at the moment? for inspiration, and why?

AM: I=m sure everyone is answering with economic factors at AM: I=ve always found the Mitchell brothers, Harry and Arthur, the moment. Somebody seems to have been no more vigilant in the jocks' room at Los Alamitos, creating a fresh headache for Bob Baffert in the postponement of a barn debut, scheduled for Del Mar this weekend, for Maximum Security (New Year's Day). This year Baffert has endured setbacks proportionate to his success, which is saying plenty, and it's unfortunate that the mainstream media has taken the opportunity to conflate those twin menaces to the reputation of our sport, injuries and drugs. The more responsible coverage has at least kept in perspective the relatively innocuous contamination of Charlatan (Speightstown) and Gamine (Into Mischief). But some have been unable to resist the narrative combining this episode with the peculiar treatment of Justify (Scat Daddy), after his positive test on the way to a Triple Crown; the welfare traumas, last year, of Baffert's otherwise paradisal home track, Santa Anita; and the federal indictments this spring against trainers Jason Servis and Jorge Navarro, among others. cont. from p1 It was Servis, of course, who supervised the career of Maximum Security until that scandal broke--in a fashion that always seemed unorthodox, even before the lurid doubts introduced by his arrest. How long ago it seems, now, since that sultry evening when, after a prolonged delay for the heat wave, Maximum Security denied Baffert's Mucho Gusto (Mucho Macho Man) in the GI TVG.com Haskell. One way or another it has been a wild ride all the way through, for this horse, and this Del Mar fiasco will barely warrant a footnote in his biography. Fierro, DataTrack obtain those scans. The data gathered from each scan is run through an algorithm that takes into consideration the size of the heart, its pumping efficiency and the horse's body size. This gives us a Cardio Score which is based on a numerical system that is akin to a "report card" of six grades of equal decimal distance: A, B+, B, C+, C, D-- the higher the numerical score the higher the "report card Cardio Grade," ergo the more efficient the system for that horse. What the system does not do, however, is disqualify a racing prospect based on the size of the heart alone because body size and cardio pumping efficiency play a big role in the score. A simple analogy might be to compare the size and structure of the horse to an automobile model and the efficiency of the cardio system to horsepower of the engine, to wit: A horse which is a Maserati in structure with what appears to Coady be an average size heart may generate a B+ Cardio Grade With apologies to Pliny the Elder, who more than two because that heart (engine) can rev up quickly to deliver the centuries ago penned those words in the headline, and also to right amount of fuel for that chasis.
