EVERY TREE IS KNOWN BY ITS OWN FRUIT. In grade school catechism class you may have been asked to learn and memorize the Fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, selfcontrol, longsuffering, modesty and chastity. These 12 attributes are the means by which wecome to understand how an individual is living in accord with the Holy Spirit. They are the work of God’s grace in our lives and the result of us tending to our hearts, making them fertile soil for the love of God to take root so that only good fruit can grow. THE OAKLAND CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY will join us on Wednesday, March 6 for the 8:15 am Mass. As always, we welcome them and are happy that are joining us for the celebration of Mass. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE.The Saint Paul Cathedral Respect Life Committee invites all members of the Cathedral family to witness to the sanctity of all human life, especially the unborn, by participating in the spring 40 Days for Life campaign which begins on Wednesday, March 6 and ends on Sunday, April 14. In a particular way, all adults are invited to pray in front of Planned Parenthood at 933 Liberty Avenue downtown. During the campaign, a peaceful vigil takes place from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm every day. Specifically, Saint Paul Cathedral has a shift from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 3. If you are not familiar with 40 Days for Life, it is a focused prolife campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion. The peaceful vigils are held throughout the world. Various churches and organizations from around the region sign up for shifts, but people are free to pray anytime. Please contact the respect life coordinator at the Cathedral, Mark Sullivan [email protected] if you are interested in joining us. You can also learn more by visiting the 40 Days for Life website.

COFFEE AND DONUT SUNDAY is scheduled for next Sunday, March 10 following the 10:00 am and 12:00 Noon Masses. We are grateful to the Young Adult Ministry for their help in coordinating this month’s gathering. Please join us!

LECTORS are needed for both the 8:15 am and 12:05 pm Masses. We have lost several of our lectors over the past year and need to have additional lectors to cover a number of our weekday Masses. Please consider this ministry and if you are able to help please contact Father Stubna at the rectory or by email [email protected].

This is a question we receive almost daily from our neighbors. There are many ways we provide food to our neighbors and those in need. The Food Pantry at the Cathedral provides free food to neighbors every Tuesday. Bev Rossiter and volunteers from the parish pack bags, giving neighbors fresh produce, dairy, meats, poultry and shelfstable items. People come to the Cathedral every week (about 3040 people representing roughly 50 families) for food. Donations of food and money from parishioners go a long way to helping our neighbors in need. Saint Rosalia also has a food pantry and provides food to roughly 20 neighbors on a monthly basis. The second collection on the 5th Sunday of the month supports this food pantry. Deacon Tom and volunteers from Fishes and Loaves Cooperative Ministries provide homedelivered meals to over 50 people in Hazelwood and Greenfield each weekday, and they provide free lunches to people who come to the Pastoral Center (131 East Elizabeth Street) in Hazelwood. We rely on volunteers and donations to support this ministry. The Ladies of Charity from Saint Stephen and Saint Rosalia collected shelfstable items and packed “Blizzard Bags” for 57 neighbors who receive Meals on Wheels. The Youth Group from these two parishes packed “Blessing Bags” with socks, water, and snacks; these bags are designed to be given to people who stand at intersections asking for help. “I was hungry and you fed me.” (Matt. 25) Jesus comes in many disguises, and many times he is hungry M we have the opportunity to feed HIM. He asks that we not judge whether people actually need food or not M if they ask, we give them food. The Meals on Wheels program generally has extra food. We purchase food, and we receive donations from 412 Food Rescue, from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and from other local businesses. As long as we have food, we MUST share it with those in need. Each month we respond to calls from neighbors in need of emergency food M we provide boxes on request with roughly 50 pounds of food (meat, eggs, poultry, pasta, beans, canned vegetables, cereal and shelfstable milk). In the past 6 months we have provided over 2700 pounds of emergency food to more than 30 families. What about YOU? Can you help to deliver food 1 hour each week, either as a driver or as a runner? If so, please contact Deacon Tom Berna (4124143125 [email protected]). You may donate to Fishes and Loaves (place a check into the basket or mail it to 5115 Second Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15207).
