THIS WEEK AT SPS K1 is learning about all kinds of shapes, 2D and 3D. We went on a shape walk to explore the dierent types of shapes we could find around our school and church. We also built our own models of squares that we turned into a cube. During science we learned all about rainbows and colors. This is us exploring dierent colors outside.

Third Grade created posters and artwork based on our reading unit. The theme of the unit focused on the importance of reusing items instead of throwing them away. Each student had to create a poster encouraging others to do just that. Some ideas they suggested were: painting an empty can and using it as a pencil holder, using old glass bottles as vases, spice holders or something to display a treasured item in, turning milk jugs into bird feeders, and reusing masks as hammocks Third Grade participated in the “Virtual School time with for hamsters or squirrels. Dante Spadafora, Basketball Champion - In recognition of their shared success, SPS alum, Dante Spadafora, a senior at OLSH, and Jake DiMichele, a junior, are the TribLive HSSN Boys Basketball Co-Players of the Year for the 2020-21 season. The two shared a hug in Hershey’s Giant Center as their Chargers celebrated one of the greatest seasons in WPIAL history last month. OLSH won WPIAL and PIAA titles this winter, and did so with a perfect 24-0 record. In WPIAL history — which spans more than 100 years — only 14 boys’ basketball teams can call themselves undefeated State Champions. THIS WEEK AT SPS K1 is learning about all kinds of shapes, 2D and 3D. We went on a shape walk to explore the dierent types of shapes we could find around our school and church. We also built our own models of squares that we turned into a cube. During science we learned all about rainbows and colors. This is us exploring dierent colors outside.

Third Grade created posters and artwork based on our reading unit. The theme of the unit focused on the importance of reusing items instead of throwing them away. Each student had to create a poster encouraging others to do just that. Some ideas they suggested were: painting an empty can and using it as a pencil holder, using old glass bottles as vases, spice holders or something to display a treasured item in, turning milk jugs into bird feeders, and reusing masks as hammocks Third Grade participated in the “Virtual School time with for hamsters or squirrels. Monday Night Faith Formation students in grades pre-K through 6th grade created personal bags for those in need at Jubilee Kitchen as part of their service project. Each family also enjoyed Easter and Ascension Activities. They celebrated Pentecost with “Birthday of the Church” cupcakes.

Matthew Mell, Bishop Canevin Valedictorian - Bishop Canevin is debuting a new feature on its social media called “Crusaders in the Courtyard.” Members of the graduating Class of 2021 are being featured. SPS Alumnus, Matthew Mell has been chosen as the first senior to be interviewed. Special congratulations to Matthew who has been named the Valedictorian of the Class of 2021!!! Dante Spadafora, Basketball Champion - In recognition of their shared success, SPS alum, Dante Spadafora, a senior at OLSH, and Jake DiMichele, a junior, are the TribLive HSSN Boys Basketball Co-Players of the Year for the 2020-21 season. The two shared a hug in Hershey’s Giant Center as their Chargers celebrated one of the greatest seasons in WPIAL history last month. OLSH won WPIAL and PIAA titles this winter, and did so with a perfect 24-0 record. In WPIAL history — which spans more than 100 years — only 14 boys’ basketball teams can call themselves undefeated State Champions. Spadafora, a 5-11 point guard and West Liberty recruit, was a 19-point scorer who averaged 5.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 4.7 steals per game. Second Grade St. Philip School and Monday Night Faith Formation Families participated in a First Eucharist Retreat. They engaged in activities to plan the Liturgy for their First Eucharist Mass and created a mobile to remind them of the importance of the Mass. Students will receive their First Eucharist throughout the months of April and May.
