Speed to the limit this season with PortAventura PortAventura, Spain’s first amusement park is celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year. The park offers more than 30 attractions and is perfect for those looking for a fun and exciting holiday this season. PortAventura’s theme park stretches across 117 hectares and takes visitors through five magical areas inspired by the world’s continents: Mediterrània, Polynesia, China, Mexico and Far West. Across these five areas are 75 restaurants, 28 shops and ten entertainment areas. The park also hosts over 100 live shows for visitors every day. Mediterrània welcomes visitors to the park and takes them through the narrow streets of a small village by the Mediterranean shores. Mediterrània’s flagship attraction is Furious Baco, where daredevils can accelerate from 0km/h to 135 km/h in three seconds. In the Far West, visitors will find themselves taken back to the year of 1876 where the town of Penitence, Texas is celebrating Independence Day. The Stampida rollercoaster promises to make even the bravest person scream and will immerse riders in the middle of a truly chaotic buffalo stampede in the Texan desert. Another feature of the Far West is the Wild Buffalo crash cars. To experience the power and rush of the Colorado river, take a ride on the Silver River Flume, where visitors can speed down river rapids. As one of the park’s most popular attractions, this is not to be missed! The little ones can also get into the Far West spirit and go on the Grand Canyon boats, ride the Buffalo Rode cars or zoom around on the Tomahawk, the children’s version of Stampida. Recreating the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico gives visitors a taste of the ancient Maya culture. Hurakan Condor inspired by an ancient Mayan ritual drops riders 86 metres in three seconds. Thrill seekers will find themselves dropping at speeds of 100 km/h. To view the park at a slower pace, Trono Pacal offers views of the entire park. Serpiente Emplumada, swings you back and forth at breakneck speed as you sit in the snake shaped head passenger cabins. The Diablo-Tren de la Mina is a devilish roller coaster that travels through a rickety abandoned silver mine; the surprises that lie in store ensure an unforgettable trip. Children can ride the Los potrillos, delightful kid-size horses or visit the Armadillos. China starts at the delta of the legendary Yang Tse river (Yellow river). China’s highlight is Dragon Khan, one of the Europe’s largest looping rollercoaster’s. Dragon Khan features eight vertical loops, two corkscrews and other gravity-defying twists and turns, taking riders on a thrilling 100 km/h ride. For a ride that is more light-hearted, try the Imperial Cobra. The Tea Cups are also an old favourite, spinning the whole family gently around. In Polynesia, visitors are welcomed to the tropics by exotic palm trees and gardens. The key highlight of Polynesia is Tutuki Splash, where riders will be sure to end with a splash after speeding down its summit. Visitors can also get on board the Kon-Tiki catamaran, where they can swing back and forth reaching inclinations close to 180 degrees.
