Profile: Completed second term as Attorney General January, 2011 with a national reputation for fighting border crime and consumer and mortgage fraud. Previously served as Mayor of Phoenix from 1984 to 1990, leading the City in modernizing law enforcement, increasing citizen participation, revitalizing downtown and starting nationally recognized programs in economic development, the arts and historic preservation. A frequent speaker on urban issues, as former President of the National League of Cities (1989), Arizona State Director of HUD (1995-2002) and founder and manager of a low income housing nonprofit (1990 to present).
