Nat. Croat. Vol. 27, No. 2, 407- 420*, 2018, Zagreb. In this paper, the plant lists of glasshouse succulents grown in the Botanical Garden from 1895 to 2017 are studied. Synonymy, nomenclature and origin of plant material were sorted. The lists of species grown in the last 122 years are constructed in such a way as to show that throughout that period at least 1423 taxa of succulent plants from 254 genera and 17 families inhabited the Garden’s cold glass- house collection. Rezultati pokazuju kako je tijekom 122 godine kroz zbirku mesnatica hladnog staklenika prošlo najmanje 1423 svojti iz 254 rodova i 17 porodica. -

Unpublished maps and report for a SKEP project supported by CEPF grant no 1064410304. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Stakeholders in the southern karoo region of the SKEP project identified the need for a more detailed vegetation map of the Little Karoo region. CEPF funded the project team to map the vegetation of the Little Karoo region (ca. 20 000 km ²) at a scale of 1:50 000. The main outputs required were to classify, map and describe the vegetation in such a way that end-users could use the digital maps at four different tiers. Results of this study were also to be presented to stakeholders in the region to solicit their opinion about the dissemination of the products of this project and to suggest how this project should be developed further. In this document we explain how a six-tier vegetation classification system was developed, tested and improved in the field and the vegetation was mapped. Some A3-sized examples of the vegetation maps are provided, with the full datasets available in digital (ARCVIEW) format. A total of 56 habitat types, that comprises 369 vegetation units, were identified and mapped in the Little Karoo region. -

University of Cape Town 1 ABSTRACT The effect of herb ivory on plant groLtps overrepresented amongst en demi cs in sLtbtrop i cal thicket in the soLtth-eastern Cape was investigated in terms of three treatments: Reserve (low intensity herbivory), elephant and goat browsed. The plant groLtps inclLtded geophytes and three succulent groLtps Crassulaceae, Mesembryanthemaceae and "other" succulents <Euphorbiaceae, Asteraceae and Lilliaceae). The highest percentage cover and species diversity of all three succulent groups were recorded in the reserve treatment; the geophyte group did not have any significant differences between treatments. The goat treatment had the lowest percentage cover and species diversity of the three treatments. Twenty-seven percent of the species recorded were endemic to the south-eastern Cape. Significantly less endemic species were recorded in the goat treatment as compared to the other treatments. Since the soLttheastern Cape is a centre of endemi sm for these large and important succulent families it is argued that greater protection of this vegetation is needed. -

A/e: [email protected] Rebut: 10.12.2018; Acceptat: 24.01.2019; Publicat: 31.03.2019 Resum Aportem diverses observacions sobre plantes aŀlòctones a Catalunya, en general escapades de jardins o arbres utilitzats en plantacions forestals. Segons la informació disponible, dues espècies són citades per primera vegada a Europa: Lycium cinereum i Muscari latifolium. Tretze tàxons són novetat per a la flora regional de Catalunya: Acer cappadocicum subsp. cappadocicum, Berberis × ottawensis, Corylus colurna, Cotoneaster bullatus,Cotoneaster dielsianus, Forsythia suspensa, Larix × marschlinsii, Ligustrum sinense, Liquidambar styra- ciflua, Nepeta racemosa, Opuntia tortispina, Pinus ponderosa i Populus trichocarpa. Altres plantes ja eren conegudes prèviament, però havien estat confoses amb tàxons afins. Les poblacions catalanes atribuïdes a Symphytum officinale correspondrien gairebé sempre a l’hí- brid S. × uplandicum, i les de Berberis aquifolium (Mahonia aquifolium) a l’híbrid B. × decumbens. Les poques citacions de Cotoneaster racemiflorusi Lupinus polyphyllus s’han de referir respectivament a C. affinisi L. × regalis. Plantes naturalitzades de Charybdis maritima s.l. (Urginea maritima) observades fora de la seva àrea autòctona al sud de Catalunya, on es troba el tàxon ibero-mauritànic C. maritima s.s., són del tàxon de la Mediterrània central C. numidica. Els «àsters americans» tradicionalment atribuïts a Symphyotrichum novi-belgii que s’han analitzat no són referibles a aquesta espècie, sinó a S. -

The Overberg Renosterveld Conservation Trust is a Non-Profit Organisation dedicated to saving Renosterveld habitats in the Overberg wheat belt. By collaborating with our partners, in both the NGO and government sectors, we are working towards establishing relationships with farmers who understand the importance of conserving and managing remnants of natural vegetation – the life blood of the wheat belt, and the reservoirs for insuring the future of biodiversity and ecosystem well-being into the future. The ORCT was established in April 2012, because the need for an NPO dedicated solely towards conservation in the Rûens was realized. The Trust is governed by a small Board of Trustees and the Chair of this board, Dirk van Papendorp, is a commercial farmer in the region. The ORCT is directed by Dr Odette Curtis, an ecologist with a passion for Renosterveld conservation and over 10 years of experience in working with Overberg farmers. The beautiful Renosterveld Reserve known as Haarwegskloof is a very special place: it forms part of the largest and most contiguous stretch of Renosterveld left in the world and it contains many rare and endemic species. WWF-SA (World Wildlife Fund, South Africa) purchased this farm in late 2013 and handed it to the Overberg Renosterveld Conservation Trust for management and care-taking. The ORCT has since renovated infrastructure on the homestead and established the first-ever Renosterveld and Visitor Centre. We are extremely proud to share this incredible gem with you.
