Chris Argerakis Teacher at Andrew Jackson School: School District of Philadelphia Session Title: Rock Band Essentials Session Description: The session will encompass all aspects of directing a rock band in your school. I will cover many aspects including the following: finding your musicians, picking and charting songs, finding gigs, transportation, instrument repair, marketing, and developing talent through your general music classes. Participants will be able to select and chart music appropriate for their personal skill set. They will have a greater understanding of the equipment necessary to begin their ensemble, as well as the minimal skills they will need to start the ensemble (playing drums, guitar, piano, bass and singing). Bio: Chris Argerakis was born in Philadelphia, and attended Philadelphia public schools from K-12th grade. He studied Music Performance and Music Education at The University of the Arts. From 1997 through 2005 he lived in Los Angeles, where he apprenticed with notable film & television composers William Ross and Mark Isham. During his time in L.A. he scored numerous independent films and theater works. Chris built the music program at the Jackson School and started their rock band, HOME in 2009. In the late 1930s, due to the generosity of a benefactor named Mary Louise Curtis Bok, Smith embarked upon an undertaking that fulfilled his ambition. He created a legacy known first as The Research Studio and later as the Maitland Art Center. The intent of this thesis is to document and journey through Smith’s legacy, and answer the following two questions: What is the symbolic meaning behind the imagery? Why design six acres of architecture dominated by Mesoamerican and Christian-influenced iconography? The data collection process consisted of interviews; reviews of the City of Maitland council meeting minutes; readings of court documents, newspaper articles, and books in Smith’s personal library along with a literature review related to the iconography surrounding the walls and floors of Smith’s compound. -

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA MEETING OF THE SCHOOL REFORM COMMISSION APRIL 26, 2018 A public meeting of the School Reform Commission was held on April 26, 2018 in the Auditorium of the School District of Philadelphia Education Center, 440 North Broad Street. The meeting was convened at 4:35 p.m. by Chair Richman. Lee Whack, Deputy Chief of Communications, stated that at every School Reform Commission meeting, a representative from the Deaf-Hearing Communication Center is here to provide sign language interpretation of the proceedings. He also stated that representatives from the Office of Family and Community Engagement are stationed in the lobby to help with interpretation services. Mr. Whack stated that the proceedings of this SRC meeting are being streamed live on the Internet at www.philasd.org/live and can be seen on PSTV’s Comcast Channel 52 and Verizon Fios Channel 20. He stated that the proceedings are also being recorded by The School District of Philadelphia and that the School District’s recordings are protected by the Copyright Laws of the United States and may not be used in any manner without the express written consent of The School District. Mr. Whack stated that by participating in tonight’s meeting, members of the public acknowledge that the School District may use its recordings for any purpose without obtaining permission or paying any compensation. Lynn Rauch, General Counsel, stated that the School Reform Commission met in Executive Session prior to the start of today’s meeting to discuss quasi-judicial proceedings, and privileged or confidential matters. -
