  • Character Profiles
CHARACTER PROFILES Jemma Rix on playing Elphaba: “Elphaba was born with green skin and because of this she is unfairly treated and judged, even by her own father. This causes her to be very sensitive about her skin colour. She is super intelligent, has a dry sense of humour and has so much care and compassion for everything and everyone in the land of Oz. When Elphaba discovers that what she thought was a quirk is actually a magical talent, she has the opportunity to meet The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz. However, she soon finds out he is creating segregation in the land and she does not want to be a part of it. She is then cast out of society and labelled “The WICKED Witch Of The West”. Even though she was standing up for what is right, the details are twisted so that the Ozians believe she is truly “WICKED”. Glinda is the only friend she ever had and through this friendship they both learn from each other and change for the better. Playing this role is a dream come true. With such a beautiful story and stunning music, I feel very lucky to be part of this amazing show.” Suzie Mathers on playing Galinda/Glinda: Glinda is such a wonderful character to play with so many dimensions. She goes on such a huge journey throughout the show and becomes a better person for the lessons she learns. In the beginning Glinda is confident, forward and self involved. She approaches life the only way she knows how. Privileged and entitled.

MEDIA For Immediate Release RELEASE September 2017 ADELAIDE, SA NO PLACE LIKE HOME FOR SHELTER ANIMALS RSPCA South Australia selected as Wizard of Oz charity partner RSPCA South Australia is excited to have been selected as the official charity partner of The Wizard of Oz stage show, which will be hitting Adelaide next April. Producers John Frost and Suzanne Jones today announced their canine stars who will play the role of Toto in the upcoming Australian tour of the world’s favourite musical, The Wizard of Oz. Taking on the role of Dorothy’s loyal companion will be Australian Cairn Terriers Flick and Trouble, who will share the role of Toto. The producers are also delighted to announce that they will be partnering with RSPCA as their official charity partner, which will see the production raise funds for the charity. Flick and Trouble, who hail from Ballarat, will be having fun alongside Samantha Dodemaide who has been selected to play Dorothy in the performance. “We are absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with RSPCA South Australia as our chosen official charity partner,” Suzanne Jones said. “With Toto being one of the most-loved characters in the show, it seemed a logical and rewarding partnership. “As Dorothy discovers ‘there is no place like home’; so we are looking forward to working with RSPCA in each state to raise money and awareness for ‘rescue dogs’, animals who have been abandoned, to help them find a new and forever home.” Yvonne Martin-Clark, Executive Manager of Fundraising & Marketing at RSPCA South Australia said, “RSPCA South Australia cares for around 10,000 animals every year, many of which are abandoned, unwanted or lost.

The event brought the former player community together to celebrate the launch of the IC’s initiative to assist former players, Beyond the Tour (BTT), which in the first instance offers complimentary introductory membership to recently retired players. The evening was an opportunity to acknowledge the careers of those recently retired, something that’s often overlooked. Former players inducted into the IC under the BTT initiative were Isabella Holland, Ashling Sumner, Adam Hubble and Stephanie Bengson. It was a great get together, welcoming these and our other new members, Mary Sawyer Collins, Kane Dewhurst, Jane Taylor, John Fitzgerald and Nicole Keneally. It was a most enjoyable evening, attended by nearly 90 of Australia’s former players and tennis community, including John Newcombe, Evonne Cawley, Frank Sedgman, Janet Young, and our then-President Geoff Masters. Also present were representatives from the WTA, ATP and joint hosts of the event, Tennis Australia (TA).
