SECRET BROADWAY CAST LIST Sat 22 Feb, 2020 Your Host for the Evening - Lance Horne (USA) Lance Horne is an Emmy award-winning composer, pianist, singer, and music director who has arranged for/performed with Alan Cumming, Jake Shears/Scissor Sisters, Ricki Lake, Rufus Wainwright, Pink Martini, Liza Minnelli, Kylie Minogue, the von Trapps, Ben Folds, Neil Gaiman, Kristin Chenoweth, Justin Bond, Sandra Bernhard, Amanda Palmer/Dresden Dolls, Cheyenne Jackson, Kelli O’Hara, Meow Meow, Taylor Mac, the Gatlin Brothers, Boston Pops, Seoul Philharmonic, Atlanta Symphony, London/SF/LA/NY Gay Men’s Chorus, Sydney Dance Company, Michael Feinstein, Carol Channing, and Sesame Street; performed for President Obama, the First Lady, and Queen Elizabeth; and had multiple appearances at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Lincoln Center, and London's West End. Lance is a Steinway Artist, recipient of Jonathan Larson, Bistro, and ASCAP Awards, Interlochen graduate with BM, MM in Composition, The Juilliard School. Shoshana Bean (USA) Shoshana Bean’s three independent solo albums have all topped the iTunes R&B and Blues charts in the US and UK, with her fourth and most recent project, SPECTRUM, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Jazz charts. She has sold out solo concerts around the globe, lent her voice to countless films and television shows, amasses millions of views on YouTube, and performed alongside Ariana Grande, David Foster, Postmodern Jukebox, Brian McKnight, and Michael Jackson. Shoshana is a veteran of the Broadway stage having made her debut in the original cast of Hairspray, starring as the very first replacement for Elphaba in Wicked and most recently as Jenna in Waitress. She won a IRNE Award for her performance as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl and earned a Jeff Award nomination for her portrayal of CeeCee Bloom in the pre-Broadway musical production of Beaches. Simon Burke One of Australia’s most accomplished, respected and versatile performers, Simon’s career has been in overdrive since the age of 13 when he starred in Fred Schepisi’s acclaimed feature film The Devil’s Playground for which he won the AFI Award for Best Actor. Since then he has enjoyed great success both in Australia and the UK in film, television, stage, concert appearances and cabaret. He’s also being doing voice overs since the late great Jack Kenery from George Patts stood him on a box at the age of 10 to record his first radio commercial. Some of Simon’s career highlights to date include: • Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sound of Music at the London Palladium – Role of Capt. Von Trapp. • La Cage Aux Folles at the Playhouse Theatre, London, starring as Georges. • Playing Carl-Magnus opposite Dame Judi Dench in A Little Night Music at the Royal National Theatre. • Made his West End debut as Raoul in Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre. • Australian audiences will remember Simon as Marius in the original Australian cast of Les Miserables. • Countless productions for Sydney Theatre Company. • Simon’s many television credits include Hustle, Rescue: Special Ops, The Alice, All Saints, Small Claims III, Thank God You’re Here, South Pacific, Brides of Christ, Scales of Justice, Water Rats, Danielle Steele’s The Ring, The One That Got Away, Heroes Mountain, After the Deluge, Grass Roots, Preservation and Postcard Bandit, and he is extremely proud of his 25-year stint as one of the most popular presenters on ABC TV’s Play School. • Simon also starred in Foxtel’s mini-series Devil’s Playground where he reprised the role of Tom Allen that he created as a boy in 1975 in the original film. He is also an executive producer of the project. The list goes on, including hosting The Helpmann Awards from 2001 to 2006. Mindy Kwanten Mindy Kwanten is an extraordinary vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, actor, songwriter, vocal producer and arranger. Cast in her first lead role at age 17 as 'Mabel Washington' in the original cast of Fame the Musical (Australia and Asia). Mindy went on to feature in the role of 'Mary' in David Atkins HAIR the Musical then later as a 'Diva' in Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical and most recently as 'Cynthia' in The Sapphires. Mindy has received her A.Mus.A (classical) through AMEB and Dip. Public Performance (all styles) with distinction through the International Conservatorium of Music. Min has penned two sell out cabaret shows, Sass and Class, and Min Min Lights. She has toured Australia and Internationally extensively performing as a backing vocalist for Artists such as Thelma Houston, Archie Roach, Christine Anu, Dan Sultan, David Campbell and Jack Jones to name a few. Mindy has also supported for INXS, Eskimoe Joe and David Campbell. Mindy is a Wiradjuri Song Woman and member of Black Arm Band performing in Murudak, Ngunhwurra Means Heart (with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) and critically acclaimed Dirtsong singing in 15 different Aboriginal Languages. Mindy greatest love is originals project Bow and Arrow - an electro-soul duo with husband Mitchell Kwanten, together playing major festivals throughout Australia like Byron Bay Blues Festival, Homegrown, Yabun, Spirit Festival, Adelaide Fringe and for Yo-Yo Mah at The Sydney Opera House. Check out their debut single Midnight (directed by Ryan Kwanten) and Mindy's latest release Heal Together with Christine Anu, Philly and Radical Son through ABC MUSIC. Jordan Malone Jordan is a Brisbane born performer. Following high school, she spent a year studying Classical Voice at the Queensland Conservatorium, and the next year began a Bachelor of Musical Theatre QCGU, graduating in 2017. Her QCGU credits include Charity in Sweet Charity, Diane in the national tour of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, and in her final year she was Dance Captain for the Conservatorium’s production of West Side Story, working alongside Australian choreographer Christopher Horsey. Jordan made her Opera Queensland debut as a featured dancer in their production of Kiss Me Kate, choreographed by Christopher Horsey. She was a featured vocalist at QPAC’s Broadway and Beyond concerts, alongside artists Rhonda Burchmore and Teddy Tahu Rhodes. After graduating, Jordan played the role of Ivy in Queensland’s premier production of Bare: A Musical as part of the Brisbane Powerhouse’s annual Melt Festival. She then went on to play Martha Bessel in Spring Awakening produced by Spencer Bignell. At the end of 2018, Jordan started work on GFO’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, marking her professional debut. Tim Carroll Tim is thrilled to be returning to HOTA after performing as Boq in the 15th Anniversary production of Wicked. Graduating from the QCGU in 2015, Tim completed a Bachelor of Music (Musical Theatre) with academic honours under the direction of Paul Sabey. In his final year Tim was cast as Eddie in Blood Brothers directed by critically acclaimed West End director Ian Good, and was a Rob Guest Endowment Award Semi-Finalist. Tim went on to perform in the Matilda Award winning production of Carrie as George/Male Swing and made his debut with Opera Queensland as Benny Belcore in the touring production of FiZZ! In 2017 Tim launched his production company Passion Productions, co-producing CONfused with QCGU to raise money for the Actors' & Entertainers' Benevolent Fund and Headspace. Other performance credits include a sold out season of The Boys of Sondheim, originating the role of Roger in Grease: The Arena Experience, Hanschen in Spring Awakening at Metro Arts, and The Witch in Hansel & Gretel for Opera Queensland/Shake&Stir. Tim has also performed alongside Jemma Rix for her Gravity album launch, and spent 2018 touring Australia with the stage adaption of Andy Griffith’s The 78-Storey Treehouse. Adele Parkinson Gold Coast born and raised, Adele Parkinson is a WAAPA graduate and alumnus of the Philippe Gaulier Theatre School in Paris. Adele’s theatrical credits include swing/understudy Elle Woods in Legally Blonde: The Musical (GFO) Factory Girl/Fantine understudy in Les Misérables (Cameron Macintosh International); Marion in Priscilla: Queen of the Desert (Michael Cassel Group); Sapphire/Mrs Trafe/Ms Spite in Billionaire Boy: (CDP); Maisie in Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians (AKA); Miranda Ashton in Brigadoon (TPC); T-Rex 2 in Triassic Parq (Squabbalogic); various roles in LOVEBiTES (Hayes Theatre Co.) and Sue Snell in Carrie (Squabbalogic). Her cabaret credits include Chiquitita in Chiquitita and Fernando (One Eyed Man) and Sharon Carpenter in The Carpenters From Kempsey (Darren Mapes). Adele has appeared as a presenter on ABC’s SplashDance and as a guest artist on cruise liners throughout the Asia-Pacific region with The Diamonds (SMA). James Shaw Returning to the Gold Coast for Secret Broadway, James is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, with his career as an actor, writer and director taking him around Australia and the world to Asia, the USA, Europe and the Middle East. Theatre credits include Wicked, Chicago, Rent, Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret, Bare, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Australian premiere of Titanic, and one of his favorite shows Jekyll and Hyde opposite the late Rob Guest. He has toured with Nickelodeon, The Wiggles, and Smurfs Live, as well as performing at Tokyo Disney, Universal Studios Japan, The Lord Mayors Christmas Carols Brisbane River Stage, and Cunard's Queen Victoria. James returns to Australia after 2 years performing the role of Harry Bright in Mamma Mia and is represented by T&E Management.
