In light of the terrible tragedy in Brisbane this week, it is timely to remind ourselves Tuesday 3rd March that the scourge of family violence is still plaguing our community. Our thoughts are Whole School Athletics Carnival with the family and friends of the victims, and indeed to all those who have ever been victims of family violence. We are a Respectful Relationships school; as a College we Thursday 5th March firmly denounce any form of family violence, and we will never turn a blind eye to it. We Year 7 Immunisations Round 1 urge all parents to have the conversation with your children about what family violence - students to wear sport uniform is, and to promote positive and respectful relationships for your children. As adults, we need to be the role models and agents of change that will empower our children with the Monday 9th March values and dispositions that will see this shameful behaviour banished from our society, Labour Day PUBLIC HOLIDAY once and for all. If any parents, children or friends ever need guidance or support with family violence concerns, please call 1800 RESPECT ( 1800 7377 328 ) for confidential Wednesday 11th March service. However; we know that Compass does not have a shopping trolley and asks you to enter payment details for each subject. We understand this can be frustrating and have been in discussions with Compass to rectify this situation. If you have paid your fees direct to us by BPay, direct into our Bank Account or at our Accounts Office, it is a manual process for us to go back into Compass and mark these fees as paid, similarly to the way you have to do it – one by one. Therefore, if you have paid your fees using any method other than via Compass, please ignore Compass requests for payment. Payment Plans obviously work in the same way. If you have any Account queries or would like to set up a Payment Plan, please contact either Gayle on 9707 7607 or Nikki on 9707 7635. Your vote will be invalid if you vote for more candidates than the number of vacancies to be filled. • Place the completed ballot paper in one of the small envelopes and write your name and address on the back. • Place this envelope in the second blank envelope supplied and either hand deliver it to our reception or post it. Wellbeing News 2 Year 10 News The smell of the beach air filled our lungs; the cool breeze filled the air. It was time to dive in. On Monday on the 3rd of February, the Year 10s headed to Mornington Beach to complete our Team Building Activities. These activities were set to help us bond together with new people in our group and generally have a good time, even if it was raining and the ocean was as cold as the freezers at Woolworths! We were put out of our comfort zones when swimming in the ocean, played competitive beach games together, went on a thrilling beach walk! These activities all combined gave us the ability to not stress about anything and just to have fun in the moment. First and foremost, seeing Mr Irons walk into the water exclaiming that the water “(wasn’t) cold” whilst we are freezing our behinds off, was certainly an experience we’ll never forget. The next activity was the beach walk and after the quick, yet refreshing swim, it certainly was pleasant walking and talking and sharing experiences between ourselves, or just complaining how we were hungry! Finally, our last activity before lunch was the beach activities and after playing dodge-ball on the sand, I can clearly determine my sense of balance is just as bad on sand as it is on dry land. Then the best part of it all, we got to go explore Mornington town and grab ourselves something to eat. With all these fancy looking places we could go to Subway, a fish and chip shop, a noodle store but finally the best of them all: Coles… But other than that, this was an experience of a lifetime and it shows that just being with new people or friends out of your comfort zone can impact you in such a positive way. I would like to thank on behalf of the Year 10 students, all the teachers and others that made this day possible. It really made it a day we won’t forget. Jie Piercy Year 10 3 Literacy News For the love of books! On Friday the 14th February our Literacy Team held a special event in the new Literacy Centre, welcoming all students to check out the space and giving away pre-loved books from their second-hand-book library. 20 boxes of books were emptied in 20 minutes flat!! We are delighted that these books can be loved again, with students eager to take them home and enjoy their new treasures! Athletics Day News B9G & M9D will be selling food and drinks during the Athletics Day Carnival, which is on the 3rd of March. We encourage all students to bring along some change to buy cookies, zooper doper icy-poles, lolly bags, BBQ and soft drinks. 4 VET Hospitality News Parents and relatives of second year VET Hospitality students were invited to attend an information evening on 19th February. Focus of the event was to meet families personally and provide them important information such as the course structure and the work experience program for second year Hospitality course. Students prepared a lovely selection of finger food for their parents and relatives to enjoy during the evening. It was a wonderful experience to be able to coach our students on this event and furthermore, it is fascinating to see how much they learn through hands on experiences that we provide throughout the program. I would like to congratulate Hannah D’arcy, Jilian Pan, Chanthealinsak Chem, Max Edwards, Olivia Poulton and Cody Roberts for their efforts and determination in producing such delicious and attractively presented finger food to serve our guests. Ms Manori Liyanage VET Hospitality Trainer 5 ARTS News 2020 Production News – GREASE 19th - 22nd August 2020 WOW. What a big production year we are already having. With our highest ever number of applications for cast and crew, as well as our first year of having a live band, we have been absolutely overwhelmed with talent and enthusiasm! We would like to congratulate everyone who has expressed interest so far and to thank you for your patience and support as we finalise casting and the schedule for the year.

Beaconsfield joined the Mornington Peninsula League in 2002 after stints in the SWGFL and the WGFL. The Eagles continue to enjoy a healthy rivalry with the Berwick Football Club, culminating in the annual Battle of the Creek match. Great eras The Eagles won a hat-trick of flags in the SWGFL from 1980-82, and in 1993 transferred to the WGFL. The club enjoyed immediate success at reserve and junior level but had to wait until 1999 for its initial senior premiership in West Gippsland. This success was followed with another flag in 2001. The club also had five reserves successes, three under-17 and three under-15 premierships in this eight- year period. A major VCFL restructure saw Beaconsfield join the MPNFL in 2002, with premierships coming in 2003 and 2004.

CHAMPION/DATA/ISSUE 16 Hi and welcome to the sixteenth edition of the Fantasy Freako’s rave for 2011. We dodged a bullet last round with news that Gary Ablett’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first thought. He’s now an outside chance to face Richmond this week, which would relieve the thousands of coaches that traded him in last round. Enjoy this week’s rave and good luck to everyone for the upcoming round. NO SIGN OF HOME SICKNESS GET READY TO POUNCE! It’s one thing to perform on your home deck, but to do it away from With most of us close to finalising our sides, it’s vital that we bring home as well is an added bonus. • Character Profiles
CHARACTER PROFILES Jemma Rix on playing Elphaba: “Elphaba was born with green skin and because of this she is unfairly treated and judged, even by her own father. This causes her to be very sensitive about her skin colour. She is super intelligent, has a dry sense of humour and has so much care and compassion for everything and everyone in the land of Oz. When Elphaba discovers that what she thought was a quirk is actually a magical talent, she has the opportunity to meet The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz. However, she soon finds out he is creating segregation in the land and she does not want to be a part of it. She is then cast out of society and labelled “The WICKED Witch Of The West”. Even though she was standing up for what is right, the details are twisted so that the Ozians believe she is truly “WICKED”. Glinda is the only friend she ever had and through this friendship they both learn from each other and change for the better. Playing this role is a dream come true. With such a beautiful story and stunning music, I feel very lucky to be part of this amazing show.” Suzie Mathers on playing Galinda/Glinda: Glinda is such a wonderful character to play with so many dimensions. She goes on such a huge journey throughout the show and becomes a better person for the lessons she learns. In the beginning Glinda is confident, forward and self involved. She approaches life the only way she knows how. Privileged and entitled.
