Report on National Tour 2019 T.Y.B.Tech. Div.B Ahmedabad & Vadodara 24th November – 30th November Introduction and Purpose A National tour was organised by MIT-WPU for the development of students in various sectors like Co-operation, Management, Skill development, Knowledge improvement and understanding the culture of the respective part of the country. The students are supposed to follow all the rules and regulations of the University during the national tour, they are also supposed to maintain the dignity of State of Maharashtra and College. Considering the above motto Department of Civil Engineering of MIT- WPU Pune smoothly conducted the National Tour of T.Y.B.Tech. Div.B from 24-30 November 2019 under the guidance of Prof. Dr. M.S. Kulkarni, Prof. M. M. Makwana, Prof. Dr. H. R. Magarpatil and Prof. S. N. Shinde in Ahmedabad and Vadodara cities in state of Gujrat, India. Day 2: 25th Nov 2019 On arrival at Ahmedabad on 25th December, all students and staff checked in hotel and had Breakfast and lunch. In the Second half of the day the group visited the Sabarmati Ashram which has its importance during independence of the country and knowing more about Mahatma Gandhi and his struggle during the hard time. Also the students observed Civil work done along river front of Sabarmati River. About Sabarmati Ashram Returning from South Africa on January 9, 1915, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was in search for a place to settle himself and a small group of relatives and associates who were with him in the African struggle. His political views still unformed, Gandhi chose Ahmedabad. The 36 acres Ashram site and activities were begun. The Ashram was a human laboratory where Gandhi could test his moral and spiritual hypotheses. It was a family not linked by blood or property, but by an allegiance to common ideals. These main objectives of Sabarmati were as follows: Education, Truth (Non-Violence and Love), Celibacy, Control of the palate, No Stealing, Non-Possession, use of home-made articles, Conquer of Fear, and the eradication of UNTOUCHIBILITY. Faculties at Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad In the second half of the day group was taken to Adalaj Stepwell. The Adalaj stepwell is a square piece of architecture towards the bottom that transforms into an octagonal structure towards the top. Hewn in sandstone and built in Carved Stone and mortar, in the Indo-Islamic style of architecture, a colonnade of pillars support the ornate octagonal edifice that descends seven stories deep into the underground from top to bottom. About The Adalaj Stepwell Initially known as Rudabai ni vav (Rani ki vav), the Adalaj stepwell came to be known by its current name owing to the quaint village it is situated in. The village of Adalaj is located approximately 20 kilometres on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, which gave the vav (in Gujarati language it means a well, which is accessed through a flight of stairs) its name. Construction work on the magnificent step well began during the late 1490s under the supervision of Rana Veer Singh of the Vaghela dynasty. Day 3: 26th Nov 2019 On the third day total three places were visited, CEPT University: Different models (moving/non- moving), Surveys, Research papers, Posters, Samples etc. were displayed in the campus and a seminar on Ahmedabad Metro was given to the group stating the design, difficulty, funding, estimation, specifications and objectives of the project. Students at Adalaj Stepped Well Day 3: 26th Nov 2019 On Day three the visits to CEPT University and Gift City were planned. About The CEPT University CEPT University focuses on understanding, designing, planning, constructing and managing human habitats. Its teaching programs build thoughtful professionals and its research programs deepen understanding of human settlements. CEPT University also undertakes advisory projects to further the goal of making habitats more livable. The University comprises five faculties. The Faculty of Architecture was established as the ‘School of Architecture’ in 1962. It focuses on design in the private realm. The Faculty of Planning focused on planning in the public realm was established in 1972 as the ‘School of Planning’. The Faculty of Technology, which concentrates on engineering and construction, was established in 1982 as the ‘School of Building Science and Technology’. The Faculty of Design was established in 1992 as the ‘School of Interior Design’. It deals with habitat related interiors, crafts, systems, and products. Faculty of Management established in 2013 and it focuses on Habitat and Project Management. CEPT University takes its name from the ‘Center for Environmental Planning and Technology’ (CEPT). CEPT and the various schools that it comprised were established by the Ahmedabad Education Society with the support of the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India. The Government of Gujarat incorporated CEPT as a university in 2005. The University Grants Commission recognized CEPT University under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 in 2007. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) of the Government of India recognizes the University as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO). Students and Staff at CEPT University GIFT City: The GIFT City GIFT City is an integrated development on 886 acres of land with 62 mn sq. ft. of Built Up area which includes Office spaces, Residential Apartments, Schools, Hospital, Hotels, Clubs, Retail and various Recreational facilities, which makes this City a truly “Walk to Work” City. GIFT City consist of a conducive Multi-Service SEZ (Special Economic Zone) and an exclusive Domestic Area. This City is a Vertical City which will optimize land area consumption for development. The City is located on the bank of river Sabarmati connecting the Business capital (Ahmedabad) and Political capital (Gandhinagar) of Gujarat State- The Growth Engine of India. GIFT City is a new Financial & Technology Gateway of India for the World. This high-tech city is been constructed in the outskirts of Gandhinagar, Gujrat. The models displayed in the CEPT University were actually been constructed on site. The construction works were shown to the group by travelling around the area with bus and a guide. Day 4: 27 Nov 2019 On day four visit to Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) and Akshardham were planned. Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) The decade following independence in 1947 was witness to a surge of innovative ideas to build a fledgling independent nation into a model democratic state committed to growth with equity. The establishment of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) was the outcome of one such innovative initiative. Led by space scientist Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and an eminent industrialist and philanthropist Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai, and proactively supported by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Dr. Jivraj Mehta, a group of enlightened individuals set up IIMA in 1961. This group ably wove together a coalition of five actors - the governments at the centre and the state, local industrialists, the Ford Foundation and the Harvard Business School, to establish the foundations of the Institute. Students and Faculties at IIM Ahmedabad Akshardham The temple is created by Pramukh Swami Maharaj (1921-2016), the fifth spiritual successor of Swaminarayan according to the BAPS denomination of Swaminarayan Hinduism. Located in the capital of Gujarat, the complex was built over 13 years and is a tribute to Swaminarayan and his life and teachings. At the center of the 23- acre complex is the Akshardham mandir, which is built from 6,000 metric tons of pink sandstone from Rajasthan. The complex's name refers to the divine abode of Swaminarayan in the BAPS philosophy; followers of Swaminarayan believe that the jiva or soul goes to Akshardham after attaining moksha, or liberation. BAPS followers worship Swaminarayan as God almighty. The focal point of the complex is the Akshardham Mandir, which measures 108 feet high, 131 feet wide and 240 feet long and features 97 carved pillars, 17 domes, 8 balconies, 220 stone beams and 264 sculpted figures. In accordance with Vedic architectural principles, no steel or iron has been used anywhere in the mandir. 20 feet-long stone beams, each weighing five tons, have been used as load-bearing support throughout the mandir. Akshardham Mandir, Ahmedabad Day 5: 28 Nov 2019 On Day Five Visit to Sardar Sarovar Dam and Statue of Unity were planned. Early in the morning after breakfast the group headed towards Narmada District to visit India’s mega Irrigation Project “Sardar Sarovar Dam” and the World’s largest statue ‘STATUE OF UNITY’. A magnificent execution of Civil engineering work illuminated the group passion towards the Civil engineering.
