ADMINISTRATION

• November 3, 2020 Election: Today (October 30th) is the last day of early voting. The nearest early voting polling location for City of Nassau Bay residents is the Clear Lake Islamic Center - Community Hall (17511 El Camino Real). On Election Day, the Nassau Bay City Hall Council Chamber (1800 Space Park Drive, Suite 200) will be a polling place with hours of operation from 7:00am to 7:00pm. All Election Day polling locations are open to all eligible voters in Harris County. Click here for a sample ballot for Nassau Bay residents: Precinct 307 (Nassau Bay) Sample Ballot. Reminder: If you possess one of the following forms of acceptable photo ID, you must present it when voting in person: Driver License, Texas Election Identification Certificate, Texas Personal Identification Card, Texas Handgun License, Military Identification Card, United States Citizenship Certificate or a United States Passport (book or card). If you do not possess and cannot reasonably obtain a photo ID, you may still cast a regular ballot by presenting a supporting form of ID and executing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration. • Administrative Offices Working Remotely: Due to the influx of visitors to Nassau Bay City Hall on Election Day, administrative staff will be working remotely on November 3rd and November 4th. The City Hall phone line remains operational and will be answered (281-333- 4211). The Nassau Bay Police Department, Public Works, and Fire & EMS Departments remain operational without interruption. • Nassau Bay Honors Our Veterans: The Nassau Bay’s Special Event Committee will be honoring our Nassau Bay Veterans with Nassau Bay Loves Our Veterans yard signs in and around the community. Yard signs will be installed on November 8th, so if you know somone who you would like to honor, please contact Special Events Committee Chairman Stacey Amdur by email at [email protected] to register. If a Veteran received a yard sign for the Fourth of July, that individual is already on the yard sign list and will receive one on November 8th as well. We want to send a special thanks to our Special Events Committee for continuing to honor our veterans this Veterans Day.

• Planning Commission Meeting: At Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting, Commissioners recommended approval (with additional considerations) of Griffin Partners' request to amend the Master Plan and Zoning on Parcel A of the Sarah Deel League, Abstract 13 (approximately 4.9 acres+/-). The recommendation will be presented to City Council for approval at the November 9, 2020 Regular City Council meeting. Additionally, Griffin Partners will provide responses to the Planning Commission and City staff on specific questions/comments in a formal submittal of detailed plans. You can view the full video of the Planning Commission meeting on the City’s Facebook page (online link to video). • Successful Reverse Trick-or-Treating Event: We were so happy to see all those who came out to our successful pirate-themed reverse-trick-or- treating event last weekend! We loved seeing all of the costumes and fun – it was a great way to kick off the Halloween spirit in Nassau Bay! Due to COVID, the City's normally scheduled Halloween in the Park event was canceled, so we would like to send a very SPECIAL THANKS to the City's awesome Special Events Committee, who helps bring this spooktacular event to Nassau Bay! • Nassau Bay’s 3-Clicks Campaign: Let's CONTINUE to talk about familarizing ourselves with the City of Nassau Bay's website! It's a hub of information for all things related to – you guessed it – the City of Nassau Bay! We are excited to introduce another 3 Clicks video to help you become familiar with the City’s Parks. 3 Clicks is a tool to assist our citizens with website familiarity. • NBPD Weekly Statistics: 105 calls for service, 17 reports, 36 traffic stops, 26 citations / warnings, and 3 arrests.

• Nassau Bay’s Top 10 Highest Taxpayers: According to a report from the Harris County Appraisal District (dated October 14th), Nassau Bay’s top ten highest taxpayers for 2020 are as follows: 1. Voyager Apartments 2. Methodist Clear Lake Hospital 3. Saturn 1 4. Sapphire Apartments 5. Hilton Houston Clear Lake Hotel 6. Town Square Retail Center 7. Colony Oaks Apartments 8. CITY SECRETARY

• Early Voting Statistics: Through 17 days of Early Voting (through October 29, 2020), 1,929 Nassau Bay residents have cast their vote for the November election. This includes votes by personal appearance (1,513) and received mail-in-ballots (416), which is approximately 62.79% of our 3,070 active registered voters in the City. Nassau Bay voter participation turnout in 2020 has already surpassed the voter turnout of the 2018 election – which was 62.62% of registered voters. • Mayoral Candidate Finance Reports Available Online: Campaign Finance Reports for the City’s November 3rd Mayoral Election are now available online. Mayoral candidates were required to file a report eight (8) days before the election. This was submitted to the City Secretary on October 26, 2020. These reports detail campaign financial activities through October 25, 2020. Visit www.nassaubay.com/election, and scroll to Candidate Application & Forms, to view these reports. • Political Signs in ROWs: Per the City Manager’s Political Sign Memo, political signs within City rights-of-ways (ROWs) are allowed seven (7) days prior to Election Day – this allowance began Tuesday, October 27th. There are several other restrictions for political signs, as no political signs are allowed on the following City properties, at any time, including Election Day: • City Hall or Fire Station. • City parks or recreational facilities (including bulkheads fronting Upper Bay Road, Martinique Drive, and Kingstree Lane). • City Utility or Public Works facilities. • City owned or operated vehicles. For Election Day, there will be a 100-foot perimeter from the front door of City Hall in which electioneering will not be allowed. This includes the placement of political signs.

PUBLIC WORKS

• A water leak was repaired on the main line at 3000 NASA Parkway on a main line. • A water leak repair is in progress on a leaking main water valve around the 2027 West Indies area. A section of the street has been removed and will get re-poured as soon as possible. • Leeward Townhome Demolition: The Public Works Director and City staff, along with the demolition contractors, met onsite to discuss the demolition project. City crews removed water meters to the townhomes. Existing sewer line clean outs were identified and marked. A water connection will be provided for dust control. Demolition work has started. • CIP Founders Park Sidewalk Path: The electrical supply lines were checked on the newly installed lights on the trees. Next week City crews will begin excavation on the caliche base from the existing road that was removed. The Park is closed until further notice due to construction safety measures and equipment on site. • NASA Parkway Palm Tree Trimming: Contractors will mobilize this weekend for the triming of the palm tree leaves. This is being performed to prepare the City for the holiday season. • Weekly maintenance performed at the Saturn Fountains. • Storm water pump station weekly checks were completed. • Storm water catch basins were cleared of trash and debris during and after the rain event this week. • Water Plant Operations: All normal operations. • Wastewater Plant Operations: All normal operations. Chlorine and sulfur dioxide maintenance performed by the service company. • Sanitary sewer manholes were sealed at 18000 Point Lookout Drive, 18214 Upper Bay Drive and 2045 Space Park Drive. • The Lake Nassau inlet aerator was removed and maintenance was performed. A new basket was fabricated to protect impellers of trash and debris. • The electrical system at the gazebos in Howard Ward Park were repaired and new lighting has been installed. The system was tested and is now operational. • The bushes on Saturn Lane at Town Square were trimmed and cleaned up. • Palm Tree Lights in the City: Seven (7) palm tree lights were replaced along the median at Martinique Drive at Lake Nassau and six (6) palm tree lights were replaced in the median at Point Lookout Drive. • City Medians: Parks crews are in the process of planting flowers, fertilizing, and mulching the entrances at Nassau Bay Drive, Point Lookout Drive and Upper Bay Drive. Crews are preparing the City for the holiday season. • Public Works Director Paul Lopez met with another parks equipment vendor at David Braun Park. • Public Works Director Lopez attended a City of Houston Southeast Water Purification Plant quarterly meeting.

HUMAN RESOURCES

• The Human Resources Manager held the City’s annual TML Health Medical Insurance Pre-Open Enrollment Informational meeting for plan year 2021. Due to COVID-19, the HR Manager held four virtual meetings with TML Health – splitting session between City Departments. Pre-enrollment meetings are crucial for a successful enrollment period for the employee and the HR Manager. • The Human Resources Manager and the Finance Director met with the new Customer Relations Representative for the City’s HR and Payroll Portal – Paycom. A discussion was had regarding customer satisfaction with Paycom and new software available through the program.
