Outline of angiosperm phylogeny: orders, families, and representative genera with emphasis on Oregon native plants Priscilla Spears December 2013 The following listing gives an introduction to the phylogenetic classification of the flowering plants that has emerged in recent decades, and which is based on nucleic acid sequences as well as morphological and developmental data. This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. When several genera have the same common name, the names are separated by commas. The order of the family names is from the linear listing of families in the APG III report. For further information, see the references on the last page. SCOMNAME - The common name used in Wyoming. GRANK - The global rank assigned by TNC's network of Heritage Programs, based on world-wide distribution and threats. Ranks vary from G1, very rare or greatly threatened, through GS, common and secure. SRANK- The state rank assigned by each state Heritage Program, based on distribution within the state. Again, these ranks vary from S1, very rare or threatened, through SS, common and secure. These ranks may be different from state to state depending on the range of the taxon in each state. WYPLANT L!Sl-- WYNDD maintains a state lis~ where plants of special concern in the state appear on List 1, High Priority (rare, threatened, or endangered), List 2, Medium Priority, or List 3, Low Priority. PRECISION - The degree of refinement for an occurrence when it is mapped on a USGS quad; S=within seconds, M=within minutes, G=general (somewhere on the cited quad). COUNTYNAME - The county where the occurrence is located. QUADNAME - The name of the USGS 7.5 minute quad. MARG NUM indicates the dot on the map at the WYNDD office. LAT, LONG - Central latitude and longitude of the location if known from mapping procedures. -

Executive Summary This survey was a continuation of several years of rare plant survey on San Juan Public Lands. Funding for the project was provided by San Juan National Forest and the San Juan Resource Area of the Bureau of Land Management. Previous rare plant surveys on San Juan Public Lands by CNHP were conducted in conjunction with county wide surveys of La Plata, Archuleta, San Juan and San Miguel counties, with partial funding from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO); and in 2004, public lands only in Dolores and Montezuma counties, funded entirely by the San Juan Public Lands. Funding for 2005 was again provided by San Juan Public Lands. The primary emphases for field work in 2005 were: 1. revisit and update information on rare plant occurrences of agency sensitive species in the Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP) database that were last observed prior to 2000, in order to have the most current information available for informing the revision of the Resource Management Plan for the San Juan Public Lands (BLM and San Juan National Forest); 2. -

Fact Sheet‐10‐25 A Northern Nevada Homeowner’s Guide to Identifying and Managing Flixweed Susan Donaldson, Water Quality and Weed Specialist Wendy Hanson Mazet, Master Gardener Program Coordinator and Horticulturist Other common names: Tansy mustard, herb sophia Scientific name: Descurainia sophia Family: Brassicaceae Description: A bushy, much‐branched plant that grows up to 2 or more feet tall, flixweed blooms early in the spring. Leaves: The leaves are finely divided and hairy. The hairs are branched. Stems: Stems are upright and branched. Plants grow in a rosette (ground‐hugging form, see photo below right) until the flowering stems start growing. Flowers: Tiny and yellow with four petals; arranged in branched structures. Blooms from early spring to summer. Seeds: Produces narrow seed pods ½ to 1¼ inches long. Roots: Has a short taproot. Typical plant growing in disturbed site. Native to: Europe; naturalized in much of the United States Where it grows: Gardens, landscaped areas, rangeland, vacant lots, roadsides and other disturbed or unmanaged sites Life cycle: Winter annual (sprouts in fall or early winter), summer annual (sprouts in spring or summer), sometimes biennial (flowers and dies in the second year of growth) Rosettes have finely divided leaves. Reproduction: Reproduces by seed Control methods: Flixweed is a prolific seed‐ producer, and can build up a reserve of seed in the soil. The seeds survive for years in the soil. Plants are most easily removed when they are small rosettes (ground‐hugging forms). Control relies on preventing the production of seed. Mechanical: Dig, hoe or pull young plants. Use mechanical control methods prior to formation of flowers and seeds. -

4/6/2020 London Rocket London Rocket Sisymbrium irio L. Family: Brassicaceae. Names: Sisymbrium was the Greek name of a fragrant herb. London Rocket. Summary: An erect, annual, many branched plant, with deeply lobed leaves that does not form a rosette. It has clusters of small, 4-petalled, yellow flowers in late winter to spring on the tops of stems that form long (25-110 mm), narrow seed pods that may be slightly curved. Description: Cotyledons: Two. Club shaped, Tip rounded. Sides convex. Base tapered. Surface hairless. Petiole longer than the blade. First Leaves: Club shaped, paired. The first pair have rounded tips and smooth edges. The second pair have pointed tips and toothed edges. Hairless or a few hairs. Leaves: Alternate. Does not form a rosette. Stipules - None. Petiole - On lower leaves. Blade - 30-160 mm long x 13-70 mm wide, triangular in outline, deeply lobed or serrated or toothed (usually 2-6 pairs), lobes are usually toothed, end lobe is pointed and larger than the side lobes. The side lobes usually point towards the base of the leaf. Tip pointed. Smooth and hairless or a few scattered hairs. Stem leaves - Alternate. Similar to rosette leaves but not as lobed or unlobed, sometimes arrow shaped. Hairless or small hairs. Stems: Slender, erect, round, up to 1000 mm tall. Often with slender, curved, simple hairs near the base, usually hairless near the top. Usually much branched from the base with spreading stems.
