Cocktails and Spirits List 1 / 2019 English ENGLISH COCKTAILS AND SPIRITS LIST 1 / 2019 LUXURY IN A DRINK Flavours which introduce and delight. Re-visitations and new creations, the fruit of the expertise of Raise the Bar. Classic compositions and the most innovative of cocktails all become part of the Langosteria experience. Characterised by creations which, step by step, are made to accompany you from the moment you walk through the door to the final goodbye. From an “Americano a modo mio” to an exotic “Passion dreams”. From “Shibuya” to “Manhattan”, via “Milano New York”, the byword is “Uno mas”. Our “Giuda” will never let you down. But there is no doubt that “Irma” will seduce you. And those who prefer to thoroughly honour tradition can take their pick from “Martini Cocktail”, “Old Fashioned” and “Margarita”. A wide range of recipes. For those who prefer contemplation, there are the various evolutions of whisky, from those which aim for the utmost in perfection to the Samaroli Blends, with their often-unique characteristics. A unique experience, evening after evening. To enthral and amaze. But always characterised by the international style of Langosteria. Thus the art of the cocktail is combined with fine dining. • The Orkney Hotel Whisky Menu
THE ORKNEY HOTEL WHISKY MENU ORKNEY MALTS Orkney’s rugged and windswept character has shaped some of Scotland’s most distinct and warming malt whiskies. Highland Park 12yr (40%) From Scotland’s northernmost distillery comes a full flavoured Malt. With a nose of malt, sherry and peat, a palate of smoke, heather and other earthy elements. Highland Park 15yr (43%) Highland Park 15 has a remarkable complex nose with notes of camphor, peat and citrus fruits and flowers. The drying sensation on the finish leaves a rich smoky feeling and the immediate desire to refill your glass. Highland Park 18yr (43%) Burnished gold in colour with a rich, mature oak and aromatic smoke aroma. It has a rich, full flavour, honey and peat taste and a soft, round and long finish. Highland Park 21yr (47.5%) Drawing its incredible character from predominantly American oak casks which have been seasoned with sherry, this 21 year old is a truly dynamic whisky with an intensely fruity and spicy centre, surrounded by complex layers of candied orange peel, dark chocolate and rich, slightly drier smoke. A malt that rewards patience and delivers experience like no other. Highland Park 25yr (50.7%) With its golden dark red colour and very rich, mature oak, chocolate fudge aroma, this whisky is universally acclaimed, by the critics as one of the great single malts. It has a full, rich burst of flavours, soft honey and nutty toffee and a long and surprisingly sweet finish for its age. Highland Park 30yr (48.1%) 30 years ago after deciding to lay down the casks that would go on to become the heart of this exceptional whisky and over these 3 decades, the whisky maturing inside them has developed an outstanding balance, with a seductive sweetness and extremely delicate smoke.

  • History of Scotch Whiskey
Scotch Whiskey The Gaelic "usquebaugh", meaning "Water of Life", phonetically became "usky" and then "whisky" in English. However it is known, Scotch whisky, Scotch or Whisky (as opposed to whiskey), it has captivated a global market. Scotland has internationally protected the term "Scotch". For a whisky to be labeled Scotch it has to be produced in Scotland. If it is to be called Scotch, it cannot be produced in England, Wales, Ireland, America or anywhere else. Excellent whiskies are made by similar methods in other countries, notably Japan, but they cannot be called Scotches. They are most often referred to as "whiskey". While they might be splendid whiskies, they do not captivate the tastes of Scotland. "Eight bolls of malt to Friar John Cor wherewith to make aqua vitae" The entry above appeared in the Exchequer Rolls as long ago as 1494 and appears to be the earliest documented record of distilling in Scotland. This was sufficient to produce almost 1500 bottles, and it becomes clear that distilling was already a well-established practice. Legend would have it that St Patrick introduced distilling to Ireland in the fifth century AD and that the secrets traveled with the Dalriadic Scots when they arrived in Kintyre around AD500. St Patrick acquired the knowledge in Spain and France, countries that might have known the art of distilling at that time. The distilling process was originally applied to perfume, then to wine, and finally adapted to fermented mashes of cereals in countries where grapes were not plentiful. The spirit was universally termed aqua vitae ('water of life') and was commonly made in monasteries, and chiefly used for medicinal purposes, being prescribed for the preservation of health, the prolongation of life, and for the relief of colic, palsy and even smallpox.
