    VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA Office of the National Chaplain Taps January/February 2015 ERIC C. ADAMS - Died Friday, September 26, 2014 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina at the age of 67. He was a resident of Raleigh and formerly of Jay, New York. The cause of death is unknown. He was born to the late Ralph and Alice (née McDonald) Adams of Jay, New York on September 10, 1947. He received his early education in a two-room school house in Jay and graduated in 1965 from AuSable Forks High School, Au Sable Forks, NY. Upon graduating Eric volunteered to serve his country in the United States Army. He was first trained as a Construction Engineer at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, then at Fort Riley, Kansas trained in carpentry. He served the next 13 months in Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam he married Elaine Furnia, his high school sweetheart, on July 29, 1967. He was a retired maintenance mechanic with Cornell University. Eric was an active member of Northside Community Church in Knightdale, NC and until his health declined assumed many roles as usher, greeter, janitor and painter. He was always willing to help wherever he was needed. He was an At-Large Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – North Carolina. Eric leaves behind his mother Alice Adams of Plattsburg; wife, Elaine; daughters: Carrie (Jay) of Lake Royale, Jaime (Scott) Rose of Wendell and son Eric (Tami) of Gatlinburg, TN; grandchildren: Breanna and Garrett Bassett, Karl Golden, Brennen and Liam Rose; brother, Ralph Adams of Jay, NY; sister, Madeline (Gary) Senecal of Peru, NY.

He was born February 12, 1934. He is survived by his wife, Nell Adams, of the home. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Loretta Chapter #976. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Loreto Memorial Chapel, with burial in Restview Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at graveside. JOHN F. ARNETT - Died Sunday, January 17, 2010 in the Lawton-Fort Sill Veterans Center in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 75. The cause of death is unknown. He was born in Sacramento, California May 12, 1934 to the late John and Ava (Cates) Arnett. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1962 and in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. He received an honorable discharge while hospitalized in California due to service-related health problems. He was a Permanently Hospitalized Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Lawton Chapter #751. He was a motorcycle enthusiast for many years and also enjoyed photography and collecting coins and stamps. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Betty Arnett, of New York and James and Luisa Arnett, of California; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jean Gaisler, of Arizona, JoAnn Bridges, of Washington, Betty and Rick Triolo, of Cache, Oklahoma and Patty and Lee Brooks, of Kentucky, and; many nieces and nephews.

They are as follows: 1: Honorable Service – must have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and either received a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or be currently serving. 2: Service in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters. This can be proven by any of the following: - An authorized campaign medal (see other side for a list of qualifying medals and badges) - Receipt of Hostile Fire Pay or Imminent Danger Pay (verified by a military pay statement) - Service in Korea for 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days This information is usually available through a veteran’s DD-214.     VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA Office of the National Chaplain Taps November/December 2013 PAULINE CECELIA “Polly” ANDERSON - Died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in Wilmington, Delaware at the age of 90. The cause of death is unknown. She was born on January 28, 1923 to the late Zeke and Pauline Barnard of Woodside, Delaware and a devoted sister to the late Dr. John Barnard and Zeke Barnard, Jr. of Vermont. Her loving husband of 58 years, Charles (Charlie) Anderson passed away 12 ½ years ago. Her eldest son, 1st LT. Charles Richard Anderson, served our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice in 1971 as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. Pauline dedicated her life to him as president of the Gold Star Mothers of Delaware and supported all veterans for more than 40 years of her life. She was a member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America – Wilmington Chapter #83. The Vietnam vets knew her as “Mom” Pauline was an accomplished artist, having attended both the Moore College of Art Design and the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. She used her artistic talent in everything she did, from housewife to den mother and Girl Scout leader. Both she and Charlie were very active members of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Mill Creek Hundred. They gave their lives to serving others. Pauline is survived by her son, John A. Anderson of North East, MD; daughter, Paula A. Trout; 7 grandchildren;:Chuck Clifton, Melissa Jane, Alfred Eric, Sarah Patricia, Christopher Charles, Vladyslav, Caitlyn Mitchell; and 3 great grandchildren: CJ, Nathan and Willow Arya.
