3 MessageMANAGING DIRECTOR'S

ESPAK started its journey 38 years ago, and there was no looking back in Nterms of growth and development. It offers a broad spectrum of services in the realm of engineering consultancy ranging from energy to environment as well as information technology. NESPAK has always remained in the forefront, showing steady growth at home and abroad. By the grace of God, the Company has emerged successful in the ventures it has been engaged, both in the public and private sectors.

In the years behind us, NESPAK saw several ups and downs in its business acquisition and implementation of projects. Through the years, it nevertheless rose to the challenges it came across and continues to move ahead.

NESPAK made record progress during 2009-2010 by acquiring projects worth Rs. 10.16 billion compared to the last year's business of Rs. 6.5 billion, showing an increase of more than 56 percent. It acquired 101 new projects at home and abroad amid tough national and international competition.

Major projects acquired in foreign countries include dams in southern region of Saudi Arabia, transmission of water from Khulais and Rabigh dams to Jeddah in Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, upgradation of roads and distribution network in Oman, three sports clubs in Qatar and an irrigation/drainage project in Ethiopia.

NESPAK remained actively involved in reconstruction activities in Afghanistan as construction work progressed on projects in the health and education sectors.

The major projects acquired in Pakistan during the year include West Bank Bypass Project Muzaffarabad, Quick Impact Projects FATA, Prime Minsiter's Southern Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Schemes Multan, Transmission Scheme for dispersal of power from Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project, 500 kV transmission line 3rd circuit Jamshoro-Moro-Dadu-Rahim Yar Khan and Moro Substation projects.

Strict quality assurance has always been the hallmark of NESPAK. During the year, audit reports were generated after internal audits were executed through the Internal Quality Audit Programme at all NESPAK divisions/offices. Surveillance audits were

4 carried out by the lead auditor of Moody International at NESPAK's Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad offices. NESPAK was issued the new standard and the UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Services) Certificate by Moody International for three years.

NESPAK is an icon of precision and engineering excellence and it applies the same throughout the broad spectrum of its consultancy services. Our strength lies in our professional staff. Specialised training programmes are regularly held to enhance professional capabilities of the employees. NESPAK Human Resource Division organised a series of courses/lectures on technical, managerial and support competencies during 2009-2010 at Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, imparting training to 527 employees. As many as 88 courses were conducted on project management, monitoring & evaluation, assertive client handling, problem solving and decision making. For support competencies, courses on thinking skills, presentation skills, technical report writing, leadership and conflict resolution were arranged.

NESPAK believes in quality work and meeting timelines for the projects in hand. NESPAK's performance in the earthquake-hit areas has been commendable, where it continues to play its role in the reconstruction of the projects worth Rs. 15. 7 billion.
