as a result of visiting it with gardening members of their families. This was another wonderful example of our village school playing an active part in the life of our village community, and we should all be grateful to them for their efforts on behalf of this initiative which has won the allotments being relisted as an Recently the thoughts of many in the asset of community value for a further village have centred on attempts to five years. Well done years 5 and 6! save the village allotments in the face of plans to sell the land to developers Jo Finch by the Diocese of Winchester. The children in years 5 and 6 recently wrote letters supporting local attempts to save the allotments and it has now been successfully ‘relisted as an asset of community value’ as reported in the Romsey Advertiser of June 8th. The children had a talk on the subject of the allotments and their value as a community asset from Lisa Johnson, after which they visited the allotments with Lisa and their teachers. For some it was a first visit but others were familiar with the area

King’s Somborne Hidden Rocks

This is a new, exciting village event aimed at getting families out and about having fun in our beautiful local environment! This is a community group to spread happiness and inspire creativity in all ages and get people out and about to explore the beauty of the area around Kings Somborne. All you have to do is find some rocks, get some painting supplies and get creative! You can search Pinterest or Google Images for rock painting for ideas to get you started. Please keep your artwork child friendly as project is for ALL ages. Once you have painted or drawn on your rock it’s highly recommended to seal it with PVA glue or a spray lacquer. PVA glue is probably the cheapest, easiest and safest for little ones. You can post pictures of your painted rocks before you hide them or when you find them, but you can participate anonymously as well so you don't need to be in the photo. @KingsSomborneHiddenRocks on Facebook The goal is to get as many people involved so there's more and more rocks to find. If you have friends that you think may enjoy it add them too. Please be careful when placing rocks so they don't cause any damage to people’s property or lawn mowers or hurt anyone, don't take rocks from private property or from someone's landscaping. When you have found a rock please take it and hide it again for someone else to find! Have fun and happy hunting!

The Lay Minister has the last word

Dear friends, It’s the season for Summer shows and fairs! All over the country, villages and organisations are celebrating summer. In our own community, we’ve already had a great Pentecost party and a brilliant Church Summer Fair. As I write, the School Summer Fete and Open Gardens Sunday are very soon, and the Horticultural Show and Village Fun Day follow soon after. Then in August there is our annual series of Marquee Markets. And in villages all around, similar amazing things are going on. What a lot of imagination, creativity and hard work goes into all these things! It’s at times like these that we see a village at its best and village people at their best. Of course, it’s not all excitement and laughter. We know that there are unhappy things that go on regardless of summer; struggles and unfairness and hard decisions. We don’t understand these things, and we can’t avoid them. We need encouragement and support at these times. But right now it’s the good things I want to remember, and Summer shows and fairs help me do so. When we see the things others do and create and make and grow and exhibit, it develops our sense of wonder at human ingenuity. From scarecrows to art shows, from photographs to flower arrangements, from three-legged races to vegetable patches, from lovely cakes to delicious hotdogs, there is a sense of shared joy and pride in our community. Some may win prizes, but the biggest prize is the sense of wellbeing we share with each other in creating. Yet, just in case we should ever feel that we have done these things on our own, we are wise to remember that God is the master Creator. The ideas we imagine, the designs we think up, the colour, the taste, the growth, the health, the work, the sense of wellbeing – all were His idea in the first place. And He is the One who gives it away - even his very self - to us! So that we can give it away to each other. So, when we see wonderful things in and around our village this Summer, and we feel a sense of warmth in our hearts, let’s say a quiet “thank you, God”. And when we see another person who is in need of encouragement and support, let’s remember the God who gives himself to us, and give away some of ourselves in thanks. Thank you, God! May God bless you this Summer season.
