The JAx Violin (Dragon) 3D MODEL ONLY J JAx VIEW IN BROWSER updated 17. 1. 2021 | published 17. 1. 2021 Summary Updated and enhanced in every way. Smoother edges and sleeker lines than my previous violins, but everything is still backwards compatible. I think you're going to love every angle of this one. As always, the shape follows the traditional Stradivarius shape, so if you want to use traditional chin rests or shoulder rests you can. UPDATE: Added 2 Fingerboard version for larger bed printers that avoids a seam in the fingerboard. “Full” which fits PRUSA and LONG which is the original length but needs an even bigger bed than a PRUSA. This is not a critical option in the end; but a number of people have requested the option so I've been trying to get it designed and tested. I like the result. Thank you to Autotilt for the inspiration. Now Available completely assembled on Etsy as well, due to popular demand: https://www.etsy.com/listing/687390452/the-jax-dragon-violin Tip your designers, tip your waiters, but hug your mom and dad. Since I was designing another one of these violins, I figured I'd try to make it as light as possible. Figured the optional 3D printed screw on chin rest and pivoting shoulder rest would allow the Lower Bout to not need as much heft. Plus less things to buy. After assembling it, I'm happy to report that it is definitely possible to get it close to as light as a traditional acoustic or a well manufactured electric violin. Instead of a 370mm long 8mm threaded rod for the neck (truss rod), I went with an 8mm carbon fiber tube to see how light it can possibly go and still be solid. The tube I used has a 6mm Inner Diameter (so only 1mm thick walls), but if it ends up not being strong enough there are ones available with 4mm ID or even solid carbon fiber rods to choose from. So far, this seems to work pretty well. For the adjustable shoulder rest, I recommend getting some 1/4" craft foam (or thicker) to glue onto the piece that rests on your shoulder and then cut around the edges. If you're looking for a nice way to display them, check out my Electric Violin Wall Hanger: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2575603 Oh and the parts are interchangeable with my other violins. If you can't find these inserts, you can probably get away with filling the holes with epoxy and screwing the small wood screws into that. Sharing is Caring Show some appreciation to the designers. Please do consider "tipping the designer" to encourage me to keep designing and sharing these instruments with the world. It does take a lot of effort and buying me a virtual beer is greatly appreciated. If you prefer, the tip will go towards music lesson for my children. :-) Otherwise, at least consider sharing your Makes on this post, with summaries or advice for everyone else on your settings and enhancement ideas, to help inspire and keep this great thing going. Whether you simply came up with a cool color, the perfect infill amount ...or figured out some crazy electronics twist to it. Like my other violins, the parts for this one are interchangeable with my other ones (The Mina, The Annelise and the JAx 5 & 6 String violins) to mix and match; and while the designs are straying, those connections still have their roots in Stepan Ignatovich's original ElViolin, which I think were masterful.
