  • Described by Leading Directors As the Youth Soccer Bible, and Endorsed
Described by leading Directors as the Youth Soccer Bible, and endorsed by coaches at Manchester United, COACHING OUTSIDE THE BOX: Changing the Mindset in Youth Soccer is having a profound effect on the psyche of vast numbers of coaches and parents throughout the U.S. Paul Mairs and Richard Shaw grew up in the soccer hotbed of North West England playing against the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Steven Gerrard. After they both progressed through the academy system of the professional and former English Premier League (EPL) club Blackpool FC, Richard went on to gain a National Championship and All-American honors playing college soccer in the U.S., and played professionally in the MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League). Paul continued his playing career in England and became heavily involved in youth development while gaining his Master’s degree and pursuing research in sport science. Furthermore, after developing young players both in Europe and the U.S. for over 15 years and travelling to various countries to research coaching methods and philosophies together they have collectively acquired valuable insight and knowledge. “Any parent whose child is playing youth soccer in the U.S. must read this book as the information is going to have a powerful impact on your child’s experiences, development, and ultimately their success in the sport. This book is an essential tool for any club, coach, or parent who is truly focusing on player development.” Manchester United Youth Academy Coach Dean Whitehouse Click the book to preview on www.amazon.com Using insightful anecdotes, personal experiences, and perspectives of numerous development experts, they passionately provide the reader with a clear and compelling breakdown of critical issues involved with youth development.

  • Public Petition Pe1319
Mr. Fergus Cochrane, PE1319/M Clerk to the Public Petition Committee, TG.01, The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh. EH99 1SP Friday 17th September 2010 PUBLIC PETITION PE1319 In respect of the aforementioned petition and the responses received thus, Mr. Willie Smith and I would like to comment as follows. We note that no reply has been received from Scottish Amateur FA, Scottish Child Law centre and the Department for Work and Pensions. We are particularly eager to pursue responses from the Child Law centre and the DWP given the strong comments made by Mr. Tam Baillie regarding the legality of current football procedures. Indeed, as the Commissioner raises concerns about potential breaches of Scottish law (Age of Legal Capacity (Scotland) Act 1991) and European Law (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child) the Child Law centre must engage and provide opinion on these matters. The STUC also raise the question of legality when they write ‘There needs to be a thorough review by the appropriate bodies to establish why young players as young as eight are signing these agreements that appear to be to all intends and purposes a contract between two parties and in some cases may be illegal.’ The petitioners would respectfully suggest that consideration be given to referring these matters to the Justice Committee for further investigation. In addition we feel that the Scottish Schools FA should be afforded the opportunity to contribute to this Petition given this organisation accounts for over 30, 000 youngsters. Having reviewed the written submissions received from various organisations, Willie Smith and I would respond as follows.
