Directly supervise the Assistant Dean for Research Administration, the Controller, the Director of Budget and Financial Planning, and the Director of Security, and lead a staff of ~40. Set policies and procedures, hire senior staff, organize the School’s finances. Manage utilization of income from the ~$870M endowment, establish and execute long-range plan to meet the School’s priorities. Oversee the development, execution, and monitoring of a ~$100M budget; including ~$45M in sponsored research. Negotiate complex financial arrangements with entities internal and external to Harvard. Meet with donors and provide regular briefings to the Dean’s Advisory Board. Manage the Information Technology support for the School including: planning for hardware, software, network, data center, server rooms, desktop support, system administration, and business and application services. Revamp the School’s Information Technology operations through leadership and organizational changes. Set up the SEAS Office of Information Security. Work with the Dean to assess the School’s strengths and weaknesses and benchmark against competitors. Actively participate in strategic positioning of the School as member of the strategic planning steering committee. Clarify operating policies and procedures. Consult with principal investigators on complex grant and contract proposals. Specific achievements include: Complete a benchmark of the GSSW’s strategic position vis-à-vis peer institutions and the top Schools of Social Work and made recommendations for improving performance and ranking. Complete feasibility analysis and wrote proposal for restructuring the program and tuition fee schedules for the MSW program; the new structure resulted in increased enrollment and income. Develop pilot post-disaster business recovery plan for the GSSW, serve as chair of the GSSW recovery team and member of the University Core Business Recovery Team. Coordinate the implementation of the Peoplesoft financial system in the GSSW. BOSTON UNIVERSITY- Boston, Massachusetts 1998- 2002 Director of Finance Prepared, distributed, forecast, reviewed, and closed College of Engineering (COE)’s expense budgets. Oversaw the management of grant budgets by all departments, centers, and institutes. Results will be released in advance of the October 11 Republican debate to be held at Dartmouth College. Fielded between October 2-6, the poll will assess the Republican candidate horserace, satisfaction with the candidate field, voter predictions on general election matchups between the field and President Obama, degree of voter political activity and top issues of concern.
