Seller Insight

Just over eleven years ago we were living in a lovely house in the village and quite honestly a move couldn’t have been further from our minds, but then my husband came across Eastgate,” says Jo. “He fell for it the minute he laid eyes on it and so after a fair bit of persuasion I too came to take a look. I remember walking up to the front door and even before I’d set foot inside I knew I had to have it.”

“It’s a beautiful-looking house and one that just has such a nice feel to it, and the layout flows beautifully so it’s incredibly comfortable to live in. The rooms are all generously proportioned and have lovely high ceilings and it’s wonderfully light and bright throughout. We have a very large and welcoming reception hall that’s actually the size of a living room, so a very usable space; there’s a huge open-plan kitchen, dining and living room, which is absolutely gorgeous and the real hub of the home; the large but really cosy-feeling sitting room is another stunning space and we have further reception rooms that are incredibly flexible in terms of their use. In actual fact, that versatility is one of the things that I particularly like about the house as a whole; we’ve been able to adapt and change the way we use certain spaces as the children have got that bit older, so it’s a house that we’ve been able to grow into rather than out of. I also love the fact that it still has a lot of its original character and charm and although the interior is very stylish, it hasn’t been modernised into oblivion. In short, I love absolutely everything about it and it’s going to be such a wrench when the time comes to leave.”

“The garden is another lovely feature of the property and one that we’ve all enjoyed during our time here,” continues Jo. “It wraps right the way around the house and is quite varied in terms of landscaping so there are lots of lovely places to enjoy. We have a little orchard, an area for children’s tree house and swings, a pretty wooded area in which we’ve put our summerhouse, there’s a lovely big open lawn and we also had a swimming pool put in, which has been a huge hit, particularly with the children and their friends.”

“The open-plan kitchen is an absolutely gorgeous space, but if I had to pick a favourite room it would probably be the sitting room,” says Jo. “Now that the weather is turning colder, it’s a really cosy space to retreat to and perhaps read a book or play board games with the family… it’s just an incredibly warm and comfortable room.”

“A few years ago we extended to create space for an artist’s studio,” says Jo. “It has bi-folding doors on either end and we’ve installed a wood-burning stove to keep the space cosy and warm in winter. It’s been a fabulous addition and I’d say that the possibilities for its use are endless.”

“The house is just that too big for us now so we’ve decided it’s time to downsize, but we’re hoping to stay in the area,” says Jo. “In terms of what I’ll miss most, I’d say that it would be the general feel of the house. It has such a wonderful atmosphere and for us it’s been the most ideal family home.”*
