Thank you for making your memories with us here at the Cape Cod Melody Tent and South Shore Music Circus. It’s because of your loyalty that we continue to do what we do.

It is our pleasure to welcome back many performers who consider our venues more than just a stop on tour but a home away from home. They appreciate just as well as we do, the intimate concert setting experience our venues bring with our patrons. Robert Cray, Marc Cohn, Blind Boys of Alabama MUSIC CIRCUS: SATURDAY, JUNE 8, 2019

Robert Cray has been bridging the lines between Blues, Soul and R&B for the past four decades, with five Grammy wins and over 20 acclaimed . For his latest project, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm, the blues Hall of Famer traveled to Memphis with his friend, renowned Grammy award-winning producer Steve Jordan, to make a classic soul with Hi Rhythm, the band that helped create that sound. During the 90s the Cray band was featured in concert with artists like Clapton, The Stones, John Lee Hooker, BB King and Bonnie Raitt.

Marc Cohn solidified his place as one of this generation’s most compelling singer-, combining the precision of a brilliant tunesmith with the passion of a great soul man after winning a Grammy for his soulful ballad “Walking in Memphis.” Rooted in the rich ground of American rhythm and blues, soul and gospel and possessed of a deft storyteller’s pen, he weaves vivid, detailed, often drawn-from-life tales that evoke some of our most universal human feelings: love, hope, faith, joy, heartbreak.

The Blind Boys of Alabama have the rare distinction of being recognized around the world as both living legends and modern-day innovators. They are not just gospel singers borrowing from old traditions; the group helped to define those traditions in 20th century and almost single-handedly created a new gospel sound for the 21st. Since the original members first sang together as kids at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in the late 1930s (including Jimmy Carter, who leads the group today), the band has persevered through seven decades to become one of the most recognized and decorated roots music groups in the world.

Classic songs written and recorded by Toots and the Maytals have been covered by the likes of the Clash and the Specials, and the group was featured in reggae’s greatest breakthrough event – “The Harder They Come,” the 1972 film that became an international sensation. At the heart of it all is that voice – drenched in soul, rooted in gospel, and still breathtakingly powerful after almost four decades in the spotlight.

The band’s self-titled album, “Blood Sweat & Tears”, received the prestigious Grammy award for “Album of the Year” in 1970 and produced three major hit singles: “You Made Me So Very Happy,” “Spinning Wheel,” and “And When I Die.” To this day Bobby Colomby (founding member) still handpicks the musicians for every tour. An Evening with Temptations & The Four Tops MELODY TENT: FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 2019 MUSIC CIRCUS: SATURDAY, AUGUST 31, 2019

For more than fifty years, The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits, and sold-out performances throughout the world. The history of The Temptations is the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine, that amazing engine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. It wasn’t until 1964 however, that the Smokey Robinson written-and-produced “The Way You Do the things You Do” turned the guys into stars. An avalanche of hits followed, many of which…“My Girl,” for instance…attained immortality. With “It’s Growing,” “Since I Lost My Baby,” “Get Ready,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Beauty Is only Skin Deep,” “I Wish It Would Rain”…the hits kept coming.

The Four Tops—The quartet, originally called the Four Aims, made their first single for Chess in 1956, and spent seven years on the road and in nightclubs, singing pop, blues, Broadway, but mostly jazz—four- part harmony jazz. When Motown’s Berry Gordy Jr. found out they had hustled a national “Tonight Show” appearance, he signed them without an audition to be the marquee act for the company’s Workshop Jazz label. That proved short-lived, and Stubbs’ powerhouse baritone lead and the exquisite harmonies of Fakir, Benson, and Payton started making one smash after another with the writing-producing trio Holland- Dozier-Holland. In 1990, with 24 Top 40 pop hits to their credit, the Four Tops were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
