Please be seated for the readings. The First Lesson Exodus 12:1‐4, 11‐14 A reading from the Book of Exodus. The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: This month shall mark for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth of this month they are to take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each household. If a household is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join its closest neighbor in obtaining one; the lamb shall be divided in proportion to the number of people who eat of it. This is how you shall eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it hurriedly. It is the passover of the LORD. For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both human beings and animals; on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD. The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live: when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. This day shall be a day of remembrance for you. You shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD; throughout your generations you shall observe it as a perpetual ordinance. The Psalm 116: 1, 10‐17 Robert Knox Kennedy is a treasured tradition in the Episcopal Church. We sing the words of the Psalm on one note until the accent (á), which indicates to move to the next note. Please sing (or read silently) along with us!

How shall I now repay the Lórd for all his gifts to mé? I will lift up salvation’s cúp and call on him in néed.

I love the Lord because he héard, because he listened to my pléa; Because when I have called on hím he has inclined his ear to mé.

The grave held me within its gríp, the cords of death entangled mé; Then sorrow overwhelmed my lífe and grief was my lot constantlý.

I called upon his name and sáid, “Save me, O Lord, I pray to yóu;” Full of compassion is our Gód; the Lord is gracious, righteous, tóo.

The innocent are kept from hárm; he helped me when I was brought lów; Turn, then, my soul, and take your rést; he treats you fairly, as you knów.

He keeps my feet from any fáll, my eyes from tears, my life from déath, Page 2 And in the presence of the Lórd I will walk while I draw my bréath.

The Second Lesson 1 Corinthians 11: 23‐26 Reader A reading from the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians. For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

Please stand as able for The Holy John 13: 1‐17, 31b‐35 Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. People Glory to you, Lord Christ. Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him. And during supper Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his out‐ er robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciplesʹ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, ʺLord, are you going to wash my feet?ʺ Jesus answered, ʺYou do not know now what I am doing, but later you will understand.ʺ Peter said to him, ʺYou will never wash my feet.ʺ Jesus answered, ʺUnless I wash you, you have no share with me.ʺ Simon Peter said to him, ʺLord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!ʺ Jesus said to him, ʺOne who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you.ʺ For he knew who was to betray him; for this reason he said, ʺNot all of you are clean.ʺ After he had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, ʺDo you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord‐‐and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anotherʹs feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

Jesus said, ʺNow the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once. Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, `Where I am going, you cannot come.ʹ I give you a new command‐ ment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.ʺ Deacon The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

As they gathered around him, he spoke to them, there in an upper room. “My time among you come to an end. I soon will be betrayed. My peace will always be with you, my friends. Never should you feel afraid.” In the silence they sat and they gazed at him, there in an upper room. They were troubled by what they had heard from him, there in an upper room. The Master knelt as a servant would do and humbly washed their feet. He said, ”Until I have done this for you, you will have no part in me.” Then they sat at the table prepared for them, there in an upper room. For they are my body and blood.” said the Lord. “Share them and remember me.”

The Offertory Hymn 324, Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, vs 1

Let all mortal flesh keep silence, and with fear and trembling stand; ponder nothing earthly minded, for with blessing in his hand Christ our God to earth descendeth, our full homage to demand. The Offertory Prayers Celebrant At the we are with our crucified and risen Lord. We know that it was not only our ancestors, but we who were redeemed and brought forth from bondage to freedom, from mourning to feasting. We know that as he was with them in the upper room, so our Lord is here with us now. All Until the kingdom of God comes, let us celebrate this feast. Celebrant Blessed are you, Lord, God of the universe; you bring forth bread from the earth. All Blessed be God for ever. The Great Thanksgiving From The New Zealand Prayer Book Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give God our thanks and praise.

Celebrant It is indeed right to give you thanks, God most holy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. For on this night he girded him‐ self with a towel and, taking the form of a servant, washed the feet of his disciples. He gave us a new command‐ ment that we should love one another as he has loved us. Knowing that his hour had come, in his great love he gave this supper to his disciples to be a memorial of his passion, that we might proclaim his death until he comes again, and feast with him in his kingdom. Therefore earth unites with heaven to sing a new song of praise; we too join with angels and archangels as they proclaim your glory without end:

All say together,

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Page 6 Please stand or kneel as able Blessed are you, most holy God, who in your Son, washed his disciples’ feet. ‘I am among you,’ he said, ‘as one who serves.’ On that night before he died, Jesus took bread and gave you thanks. He broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you; do this to remember me. After supper, he took the cup, and gave you thanks. He gave it to them and said: Drink this. It is my blood of the new covenant, shed for you, shed for all, to forgive sin; do this to remember me. Therefore with this bread and wine we recall your goodness to us.

God of the past and present, we your people remember your Son. We thank you for his cross and rising again; we take courage from his ascension; we look for his coming in glory and in him we give ourselves to you.

Send your Holy Spirit, that we who receive Christ’s body may indeed be the , and we who share his cup may draw strength from the one true vine.

Called to follow Christ, help us to reconcile and unite. Called to suffer, give us hope in our calling.

For you, the heavenly one, make all things new; you are the beginning and the end, the last and the first. Praise, glory and honor be yours, from us and all people, here and everywhere for ever. AMEN.

Celebrant And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread. A period of silence is kept. Celebrant We break this bread, People and share our communion in Christ’s body once broken. Celebrant Let your Church be the wheat which bears its fruit in dying. People If we have died with him, we shall live with him; and if we hold firm to him, we shall reign with him.

The Communion of the People All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Lord of All, Most Holy Hal Hopson Lord of all, most holy, how shall we give thanks? How, for a broken body? Lord of all, most holy; how shall we give thanks? How for a crown of thorns? What thanks have we, O Lord; O Lord, what thanks have we? Yet if that body of Jesus be not broken; our broken lives will not know the joy of healing. If he, the Lord, the Most Holy be not mocked; our mocking words of the truth will not be barred. And so we praise you, holy, holy. Lord of all, most holy, hear our thankful praise. Hear our supplication. Lord all, most holy, thanks for your life poured out; Thanks for your broken body. Indeed, we, too, would serve the world, and praise your name forevermore. Please be seated.
