2019: NO CORRESPONDING RACE LAST YEAR Race Summary: A terrific cavalry charge to open Royal Ascot and it could be dominated by well-bred improvers carrying the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum silks and each representing a different stable. The John Gosden-trained DAARIK, having his first taste of racing on turf since his debut, may be the pick and he has the benefit of a recent run. He’s drawn in stall 21, not far from Richard Hannon’s Motakhayyel in 26 and Roger Varian’s Mutamaasik in 16, with Habub, from the Owen Burrows stable over in stall nine.

21 The Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) - continued

Race Summary: Plenty will want to side with proven Group 1 performer Circus Maximus, who landed the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last year and followed up in another Group 1, the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp. However, there may be better value in some less exposed four-year-olds and TURJOMAAN is taken to reverse Goodwood form from last July with Duke Of Hazzard. The selection looked green and inexperienced that day on only his fourth start. That was his first attempt at a mile, he has lots of scope to progress and will relish fast ground and this more conventional track.

Race Summary: The thrillingly explosive Battaash is likely to start at short odds to score his first Ascot success and win this race at the third attempt, having finished runner-up to Blue Point for the past two seasons. Race Summary: Champion jumps trainer Nicky Henderson is an old hand at picking up lucrative Flat prizes, including this race in 2011 with Veiled. He saddles top-class hurdler Verdana Blue here and the faster the surface the better she will go. A rival with age on his side who was improving fast at the end of last season is DIOCLETIAN from the in-form Andrew Balding stable, while Sir Mark Prescott’s Land Of Oz warmed up nicely at Chelmsford last week and probably has plenty more to show.
