RAGE AGAINST the MACHINE Rage Against the Machine (Metal)

Shines Atop Mainstream Rock Songs Chart
Royal Blood's 'Lights Out' Shines Atop Mainstream Rock Songs Chart 8/17/2017 by Kevin Rutherford http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7933942/royal-bloods-tops-mainstream-rock-songs-chart The British duo notches its second No. 1 on the airplay ranking. Royal Blood notches its second No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, as "Lights Out" ascends 2-1 on the ranking dated Aug. 26. The UK-based duo led with its prior entry (and third overall), "Little Monster," back on July 25, 2015. Each of Royal Blood's four titles to chart on Mainstream Rock Songs have reached at least No. 3 ("Out of the Black" and "Figure It Out" hit Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, in 2014), placing the band in rarefied air. Only five other acts in the chart's existence, which dates to 1981, has arrived with that kind of success. Here are the acts to reach the Mainstream Rock Songs top three with their first four or more chart entries: First 7, Creed ("My Own Prison"-"With Arms Wide Open"; 1997-2000) 5, The Pretty Reckless ("Heaven Knows"-"Oh My God"; 2014-17) 5, Puddle of Mudd ("Control"-"Away From Me"; 2001-03) 4, Royal Blood ("Out of the Black"-"Lights Out"; 2014-17) 4, Audioslave ("Cochise"-"I Am the Highway"; 2002-04) 4, Days of the New ("Touch, Peel and Stand"- "Enemy"; 1997-99) Of those streaks, two, Royal Blood's included, are still intact; The Pretty Reckless' latest single, "Back to the River," is challenging to become the band's sixth top three hit from the start, bulleting at No. -

Rhymes and Linkin Park recently collaborated on “We Made It,” the first single and video from Rhymes’ upcoming album, Blessed. By touring together, Linkin Park & Busta are taking a cue from the chorus of their song: “…we took it on the road…”. As recently pointed out in Rolling Stone’s “Summer Tour Guide,” the tour will see nine acts joining rock superstars Linkin Park, who are also offering concertgoers a digital souvenir pack that includes a recording of the band’s entire set. As the band’s co-lead vocalist Mike Shinoda told the magazine, “That puts extra pressure on us to make sure our set is different every night.” The fifth installation of Linkin Park’s raging road show will see them headlining an all-star bill that features former Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell, electro-rockers The Bravery and Ashes Divide featuring Billy Howerdel, known for his work with A Perfect Circle. -

Soundgarden, a purported Washington General Partnership, Kim A. Thayil, Matt D. Cameron, Hunter Benedict Shepherd, Rit Venerus and Cal Financial Group, Inc., Defendants. ______________________________________________/ COMPLAINT Plaintiff, Vicky Cornell, individually and in her capacity as the personal representative of the Estate of Christopher John Cornell (collectively, “Plaintiffs”) through counsel, hereby files the following complaint against the defendants, Soundgarden, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Hunter Benedict Shepherd, Rit Venerus and Cal Financial Group, Inc. (collectively, “Defendants”). I. INTRODUCTION “Everybody out for my blood, everybody want my percent … They just want to take what is mine, how much more can they get.” - Sweet Revenge 1. In 2009, Chris Cornell penned these lyrics about his former Soundgarden bandmates after they unlawfully (and unsuccessfully) attempted to deprive him of his rights in connection with the valuable musical works that he created for the band. Ten years later, and after Chris’ untimely passing, these lyrics hauntingly resonate as his former bandmates, once Case 1:19-cv-25045-JEM Document 1 Entered on FLSD Docket 12/09/2019 Page 2 of 24 again, have attempted to “take what is his” – or, more aptly, to steal from his widow and minor children. This wrongful conduct shockingly started shortly after Chris’ untimely death and ultimately forced his widow, Vicky Cornell, to bring this lawsuit. -

Reading the Signs of the Times
Reading the signs of the times The recent tragic death of a rock musician has me thinking about St. Benedict. The musician is Chris Cornell, who died alone in a hotel room in Detroit on May 17. He had been lead singer for Soundgarden and other bands, and his distinctive voice is featured in the films “Casino Royale” and “The Promise.” Cornell caught my attention in 2002 when he co-wrote and performed the hit song “Like a Stone” with his band Audioslave. In the song, a man sits alone in a motel room, getting “lost in the pages” of a book that talks about what happens when we die. And he longs for heaven. It seems the book he finds is the motel room’s free Bible, and one passage he reads is Jn 14:2: “My Father’s house has many rooms.” He spends the day reading, and he regrets his past deeds (“All that I’ve blessed/ And all that I’ve wronged”). He imagines wandering alone through the Father’s house, “room by room,” waiting for God to tell him if there is any room for him. I don’t know if Cornell was thinking of that song in his Detroit hotel room. There is disagreement whether his death was intentional suicide, and some say anti-anxiety medication affected his judgment. We may never know whether despair and depression led him to harm himself and those who cared for him. But the hunger for God in his song is felt by others in our society, even if many distract themselves from it by seeking pleasure and possessions. -
