WEEKDAY MATINEE RARE AT HOME The Elias Sports Bureau considers any game starting at 5 p.m. or earlier as a "day" game and thus the Avs have hosted weekday 5 p.m. starts before, including one on MLK Day on Jan 17, 2000 vs. Phoenix. However, today is believed to be the first 1 p.m. weekday puck drop ever at Pepsi Center.

AVS ON MLK DAY The Avs are hosting a game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for just the fifth time, and for the first time since 2009-10. Overall, this is the 11th time that Colorado will play on MLK Day, with the club going 6-3-1 in the previous 10, including 3-0-1 at home.

DAY-DREAM BELIEVER Today is the first of seven home afternoon games for Colorado this season, equaling the most in Avalanche history (also 1998-99 and 2002-03). This is the fifth of 12 afternoon contests overall for the Avs, the club's most daytime tilts since 2008-09 (also 12). Colorado is 1-2-1 so far in day games, all of which have taken place on the road. This afternoon's Martin Luther King Jr. contest is one of four weekday matinees for the Avs this season. Colorado played in Boston on Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 9), played in Las Vegas on Nevada Day (Friday, Oct. 27) and played in Minnesota on Black Friday (Nov. 24).

ALL STAR BOUND Nathan MacKinnon has been selected to represent the Avalanche at the 2018 NHL All-Star Game in Tampa. MacKinnon leads the Avalanche and is tied for fourth in League scoring with 53 points (19g/34a) in 42 games. He ranks second in the NHL in points-per- game (1.26) and ranks eighth in assists. The 22-year-old center paces the Avs in all three scoring categories, as well as shots (140), power-play goals (7-tied) and game-winning tallies (5). MacKinnon, who made his first career All-Star Game appearance last season in Los Angeles, is the first Avalanche player to be selected to two consecutive All-Star Games since Joe Sakic in 2003-04 and 2006-07. MacKinnon is the NHL's leading scorer since Nov. 1, totaling 45 points (16g/29a) in his last 31 games. He is tied for second in scoring since Dec. 1 with 25 points (11g/14a) in 19 contests, behind only Claude Giroux (26). MacKinnon’s 52 points through 41 games were the most by an Avalanche player at the halfway point of a season (through 41 team games) since 2000-01, when Sakic had 56 on his way to the Hart Trophy. Nathan has 16 multi-point games this year, a career high, including three or more points on seven occasions, the most by an Avs player since Paul Stastny had seven in 2009-10.

LIGHTING THE LAMP The Avs are the fifth-highest scoring team in the NHL, averaging 3.29 goals-per-game. Colorado has scored 84 goals on home ice, the most in the NHL. The Avalanche's 3.65 goals-per-game average at home ranks fourth in the league. The Avs have scored at least six goals in a game on seven occasions this season, tied with Toronto for the most such outings in 2017-18.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS Nathan MacKinnon leads the NHL in scoring at home with 40 points (14g/26a) in 23 contests. He and his linemates, Mikko Rantanen (12g/20a) and Gabriel Landeskog (12g/12a), have combined for 96 points (38g/58a) in 23 home games. MacKinnon has 12 points (3g/9a) in his last five home contests, while Rantanen has eight (3g/5a) in his last three. All seven of MacKinnon's three-point efforts this season have come at Pepsi Center, the most by a Colorado player on home ice since 2002-03 (Milan Hejduk, 7 and Peter Forsberg, 9).

DRESSED TO KILL The Avs rank second in penalty killing (84.3%) and are the top-ranked PK team on home ice (91.9%). Colorado has extinguished 46 of its last 48 short-handed situations (95.8%). The Avs killed 36 straight penalties from Dec. 7 to Jan. 2, the second-longest streak in Avalanche history behind a 43-game run in 1996-97. The Avs went 11 straight games without allowing a power-play goal from Dec. 9- 31, the longest such streak in Avalanche history. The previous mark was nine consecutive games in 2001-02. The Avs went a month without allowing a power-play goal at home, Dec. 3 to Jan. 2.

POWER OF LOVE Colorado's power play is 13-for-39 (33.3%) over its last 11 games, which included a season-high three goals on Dec. 23 at Arizona and Jan. 6 vs. Minnesota. The Avs are tied for 10th in power-play percentage (21.2%) and rank fourth at home (28.9%).

YOUTH IS SERVED The Avs boast the second-youngest roster in the NHL with an average age of 25.6, trailing only Columbus (25.0).

TAKE YOUR HAT OFF The Avs have scored three hat tricks this year, their most in a single season since 2007-08 (three). Gabriel Landeskog is the first Avalanche player with two hat tricks in one season since Milan Hejduk in 2006-07. Alex Ovechkin (three) and John Tavares (two) are the only other NHL players to record multiple hat tricks in 2017-18. Landeskog's three-goal efforts came exactly a month apart (Nov. 16 and Dec. 16), the first Colorado player to have two hat tricks in a span of 31 days or less since Joe Sakic from March 7-23, 2000.

THAT (NOT SO) EMPTY FEELING Colorado has scored 11 empty-net goals this year, doubling its output from last season.

SECOND HALF STORY: The Ducks have found significant success in the second half of the regular season (Games 42-82), virtually each season since 2005-06…Anaheim leads the NHL with 585 points (271-140-43) in the second half since the 2005-06 season, 15 points higher than second-best Pittsburgh with 570 (excludes 2012-13 shortened season)…the trend has also been similar measuring only the last three seasons, as Anaheim has a 55-20-10 mark (1-1-1 this season) for 120 points, tied for first in the NHL with Washington (120).

830: The winningest coach in Ducks history, Randy Carlyle appeared in his 830th NHL game as a head coach on Jan. 13 at Los Angeles to surpass Bob Pulford for sole possession of 36th place in NHL history...Carlyle is also the only person in NHL history to be a head coach for 830-or-more games and play in at least 1,000...below is a look at the list of those that have coached/played in as many as 500/1,000.

NHL Head Coach Games as Head Coach Games as Player

SHUT DOWN: John Gibson's 4-0 shutout over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 23 marked the second time in franchise history that the Ducks posted a shutout in a game against the defending Stanley Cup champion...Anaheim's only other goaltender to blank a Cup- holding team was Guy Hebert in a 3-0 win over Dallas on Oct. 8, 1999.

HATS OFF: Hampus Lindholm’s first career hat trick on Dec. 21 at the New York Islanders marked just the fifth time in NHL history that a defenseman has recorded three goals including an overtime tally...the last two players to record the feat were both members of the Ducks, accounting for the only two hat tricks in club history by defensemen (Lubomir Visnovsky’s hat trick on Mar. 4, 2011 vs. Dallas also included an OT winner)...no other player has accomplished the feat since Dec. 2003 (Sheldon Souray of Montreal)...the only other players in NHL history to do so are Vancouver’s Dave Babych (Nov. 1991) and Tampa Bay’s Doug Crossman (Nov. 1992)...Lindholm was the first defenseman in franchise history to score three goals in a road game in the 5-4 OT victory over Islanders at Barclays Center...Lindholm's three goals marked Anaheim’s 50th hat trick in team history, which also included his first career OT winner.

QUICK RETURNS: Adam Henrique began his Anaheim tenure with a five-game point streak (3-3=6), marking the second-longest scoring streak to start a Ducks career in franchise history...only Teemu Selanne had a longer point streak to start a Ducks career at 15 games in 1995-96...Henrique made his return to Prudential Center for the first time since the Nov. 30 trade with New Jersey on Dec. 18, co-leading the Ducks in scoring with 1-1=2 points...Henrique enters today's game with 5-4=9 points in 19 games as a Duck.

830: Andrew Cogliano, who on Jan. 12 signed a three-year contract extension through the 2020-21 NHL season, has never missed a game in his NHL career dating to Oct. 4, 2007 with Edmonton...only two other players in the NHL, MLB and NBA have appeared in 800 consecutive games to start their career...Doug Jarvis (964 NHL games with Montreal, Washington, Hartford from 1975-88), Johnny Kerr (844 NBA games with Syracuse, Philadelphia and Baltimore from 1954-65) and Cogliano are the only three players to begin a career with 800 consecutive games or more...Cogliano's current streak of 830 games (890 including playoff games) is the NHL’s longest in more than 23 years, since Steve Larmer’s 884th consecutive game took place on Apr. 15, 1993...Cogliano is the NHL's active leader in consecutive games played...below is a look at the longest consecutive game streaks to start a career in the NHL, MLB and NBA, along with the longest consecutive game streaks overall in NHL history:
