COMMISSIONED ANTHEM Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church’s Minister of Music Emeritus, Ken Lowenberg, has been commissioned by Georgetown Lutheran Church to compose an anthem to celebrate the church’s 250th (!) anniversary. The church is located at 1556 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20007. Founded in 1769, 32 years before the City of Washington became the capital of our nation, Georgetown Lutheran is the oldest Lutheran congregation in Washington DC.The anthem is a setting of a poem, “Rededication,” by a Georgetown Lutheran member: Adam Orshefsky, based on Isaiah 58:6- 12, set to original music by Ken Lowenberg. Following the guidelines laid out by the church’s Music Director, the anthem is partly in unison, partly 2-part mixed (i.e. all the women singing one l ine, and all the men singing a contrasting line). There is also a 3-part section (soprano, alto, and men) and a few brief 4-part sectIons (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). The accompaniment, for piano, will be played by Patricia Henry, the church’s Music Director, while Ken Lowenberg conducts.
