SCNA board member Art Melworm is recovering after a bad fall and head injury put him into the hospital for several days. Art, who is also our local Naturist Action Committee representative, says he is doing better but he is still unable to drive. As a result, he says he won’t be able to attend the Member’s Meeting in July but he looks forward to working with everyone next year on the Community Outreach and Education Committee and also working on Santa Barbara Nude Beach project. Last month we announced that SCNA would award up to $250 to sponsor a member’s child to attend the annual AANR Youth Summer Camp. Well, I guess all you parents want to keep your little darlings underfoot this summer because nobody applied! So our Treasurer thanks you for not having to write a check, and we hope somebody applies next year. This year’s AANR West Youth Camp and Leadership Academy will be held July 9- 15 at Olive Dell Ranch in Colton. The summer camp program was started ten years ago for nudist children ages 11-18, and it attracts up to several dozen kids in that age bracket from all over the Western United States. SCNA Newsletter for July 2006 Page 2 of 8 SCNA ACTIVITIES CALENDAR TUES JULY 11 AND AUGUST 8, 6:45PM – 8:30 PM “SECOND TUESDAY” DISCUSSION GROUP Round Table Pizza, 17200 Saticoy St, Van Nuys (SE corner of Louise and Saticoy next to the Ralph’s Market) on the second Tuesday night each month. We have reserved a private meeting room in the back of the restaurant. Meals are “Dutch treat.” Obviously, this is a clothed event. This is a great first-step for non-members who have questions about naturism! (Members are also welcome!) TUES JULY 18 AND AUGUST 15, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM COMMUNITY DRUMMING CIRCLE SCNA members participate in a Community Drum Circle on the third Tuesday of every month. REMO Recreational Music Center, 7308 Coldwater Canyon in North Hollywood. Warm-ups start at 6:30pm, and the program begins at 7:00pm concluding at 8:00pm. There is NO FEE to attend this event! This is a clothed event. Celebrating Nude Recreation Week: SUNDAY JULY 9 NOON AT SAN ONOFRE BEACH This is our annual trip down the coast, to the closest beach where nudity is permitted. Everyone should bring enough food and beverage for themselves, plus some extra for visitors, etc. WEAR YOUR SCNA HAT, if you have one, so we can find each other more easily. Overnight hotel reservations the night before in town are suggested because the beach parking lot fills up pretty early (before 10am) during the summer. We’ll try to meet up by 1pm. SCNA Newsletter for July 2006 Page 3 of 8 THURSDAY – SUNDAY, JULY 20-23 THE NATURIST SOCIETY’S WESTERN GATHERING LAGUNA DEL SOL, SACRAMENTO SCNA is participating at this four-day annual meeting, hosting two educational workshops, plus several “games” events including the traditional “chocolate pudding food fight.” These four days are full of interesting workshops being sponsored by individual clubs and naturist leaders from all over the Western United States.
