In memory of the Honorable H. Cooper Snyder.

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 133rd General Assembly of Ohio offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the Honorable H. Cooper Snyder on the sorrowful occasion of his passing; and WHEREAS, Cooper Snyder will be remembered as a man whose unwavering commitment greatly enhanced the lives he touched within society. His sincere and steadfast allegiance to Clinton County, to the 14th Senate District, which he proudly represented in the Ohio General Assembly for seventeen years, and to the citizens of our state was unprecedented. He was praised as an incredible advocate by many of his colleagues throughout his esteemed career, and his contributions had an immeasurable impact on the community, most notably, his championing of Ohio’s schools and the importance of education for our state’s future leaders. As a respected Senator, he chaired the Senate Education and Retirement, Legislative Office of Education Oversight, and the Ohio Retirement Study committees, and among his other endeavors, he was well-known as the operator of the family business, Snyder’s Hardware, a scout master, a Rotarian, a 33-Degree Mason, a trustee of the University of Rio Grande, and a board member of the Great Oaks Foundation; and WHEREAS, Cooper Snyder embodied an unimpeachable strength of character, and he was admired for his compassion for others and his ability to address the heart of a matter with poise, humor, and a viable solution. His tireless efforts on behalf of those he served were rewarded with accolades from such local and national entities as the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Handicapped Children, the National HOUSE JOURNAL, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2019 1413

Federation of Independent Business, and the American Legislative Exchange Council. Indeed, the world is a richer place not only for his having been in it but also for the legacy of progress he left; and WHEREAS, Cooper Snyder’s perpetual generosity permeated his relationships, and upon reflection, it is easy to see why he found such pride and warmth in the circle of his family members, who not only supported his success but also inspired it. He was a devoted husband of seventy years to his wife, the late Dorothy, an affectionate father to his six children, Phillip, Harry, Marianne, Emily, Elizabeth, and the late Victoria, and a doting grandfather to his fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Although there are no words to ease the sadness now felt, surely there is solace in remembering the countless fond moments he shared with those who loved him most. His absence will be keenly felt; therefore be it RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 133rd General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, mourn the loss of the Honorable H. Cooper Snyder and salute the legacy of a truly great and dedicated man who was and will always remain a pillar of his community; and be it further RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of the Honorable H. Cooper Snyder. The resolution was adopted. Representative Edwards moved that majority party members asking leave to be absent or absent the week of Wednesday, November 6, 2019, be excused, so long as a written request is on file in the majority leadership offices. The motion was agreed to. Representative Hicks-Hudson moved that minority party members asking leave to be absent or absent the week of Wednesday, November 6, 2019, be excused, so long as a written request is on file in the minority leadership offices.
