FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Matthew Chmura June 22, 2019 617.624.1913 Brandon McNelis 857.241.8343 Travis Basciotta 617.459.6853 BRUINS MAKE FOUR SELECTIONS ON DAY 2 OF NHL ENTRY DRAFT VANCOUVER, BC - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, June 22, that the team has made the following selections on Day 2 of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft: forward Quinn Olson (3rd round, 92nd overall), defenseman Roman Bychkov (5th round, 154th overall), forward Matias Mantykivi (6th round, 185th overall) and forward Jake Schmaltz (7th round, 192nd overall). Olson spent the past two seasons with the Okotoks Oilers (AJHL). In 2018-19, the 18-year-old produced 20 goals and 46 assists for 66 points in 54 games. In the team’s postseason run, he scored five goals and notched 10 assists for 15 points in 13 games. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound forward tallied 14 goals and 39 assists for 53 points in 59 games during the 2017-18 season. During the playoffs, Olson recorded 10 points in 15 games. In 2016-17, the Calgary, Alberta native skated in 30 games for Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA (AMHL), accumulating 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points. Olson is committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth for the 2020-21 season. Bychkov spent the past two seasons with Yaroslav Loko (MHL). In 2018-19, the 18-year-old produced two goals and 13 assists for 15 points and a plus-17 rating in 40 games. He also skated in three games for Yaroslavl Loko Junior (NMHL). The 5-foot-11, 170-pound blueliner tallied 4 assists in 20 games during the 2017-18 season. He also played in 24 games for Lokomotiv Yaroslaval U17 (Russia U17), tallying 20 points (8g, 12a), and three games for Yaroslavl Loko Junior (NMHL), recording three assists and a plus-four rating. In 2016-17, the Yaroslavl, Russia native skated in 31 games for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl U16 (Russia U16), accumulating five goals and nine assists for 14 points. Bychkov represented Russia at the 2019 U18 World Junior Championship, tallying one assist in six games. Mantykivi has played with SaiPa teams for the past three seasons. In 2018-19, the 18-year-old assistant captained SaiPa U20 (jr. A SM-liiga), tallying 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points in 34 games. He skated in nine games for SaiPa U18 (Jr. B SM-sarja), producing 13 points (7g, 6a). He scored one goal in six games with SaiPa (Liiga) and was loaned to Kettera where he tallied four assists in 11 games in the regular season and six points (1g, 5a) in 13 playoff games. The 5-foot- 11, 161-pound forward tallied 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 14 games with SaiPa U18 (Jr. B Mestis Q), 24 points (13g, 11a) in 12 games with SaiPa U18 (Jr. B SM-sarja) and 13 points (8g, 5a) in 29 games with SaiPa U20 (Jr. A SM-liiga) during the 2017-18 season. In 2016-17, the Lappeenranta, Finland native served as alternate captain for SaiPa U16 (Jr. C SM-sarja Q) where he scored 11 goals and collected 15 assists for 26 points in 18 games. That season he also recorded 13 points (9g, 4a) in five games for SaiPa U16 in the Jr. C SM-sarja, six points (1g, 5a) in two games for SaiPa U18 (Jr. B Mestis Q) and 23 points (11g, 12a) in 14 games with SaiPa U18 (Jr. B Mestis). In the Jr. B Mestis playoffs, he scored one goal and tallied one assist for two points in two games. Mantykivi has represented Finland on the world stage on numerous occasions. Schmaltz played for the USHL’s Chicago Steel this season, scoring five goals and tallying 13 assists for 18 points and a plus-six rating in 60 games. During the playoffs, the forward recorded two assists in 11 games. In 2017-18, the 18-year-old played for Madison Edgewood Prep (USHS- WI), recording 56 points (24a, 32g) in 24 games. The 6-foot-1, 167-pound forward tallied 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points in 24 games with Edgewood in 2016-17. The McFarland, Wisconsin native also skated in 35 games for Team Wisconsin 15U (Midget), producing 27 points (14g, 13a) and in five games for Team Wisconsin 15U (NAPHL 15U), recording five assists.
