  • Press Release
PRESS RELEASE Collaboration between AGF and YouTube provides new evidence of the relevance of video in the German media landscape Frankfurt/Hamburg, Mar. 6th, 2019 — For the first time, the AGF Videoforschung (AGF) and YouTube published the results of their cooperation. Their collaboration started more than three years ago. The aim of this cooperation is to map the additional use of video through other platforms within the framework of the AGF convergence standard. The results for the observation period show that — with an average daily viewing time of 267 minutes for persons 18 years and older — the relevance of video in Germany is unbroken! During the study period, traditional linear TV usage averaged 232 minutes per day. Plus 35 minutes of streaming usage, mostly through mobile devices (60%). "It is a remarkable milestone for AGF's video research to have reached the current level together with YouTube. Everyone involved knows that we need to work continuously on this internationally unique project to best reflect the differentiated use of the platform in this dynamically changing technological environment. AGF's goal is to identify YouTube as a reliable, transparent partner in the AGF system, in line with the common market standard", said AGF Managing Director Kerstin Niederauer-Kopf. Dirk Bruns, Head of Video Sales, Google Germany: "We are very proud to be able to present the first results together with AGF Videoforschung and hope that industry representatives from other countries will follow the example of AGF. Google has long been committed to transparent measurement. And the presented data highlights the relevance of the YouTube platform for users, the advertising industry, and our content partners." 1 YouTube as platform in the AGF system Since April 2015, AGF and YouTube have collaborated intensively with the common goal of integrating the YouTube platform into the AGF system.

2004 Country Report on Human Rights Practices in Romania Page 1 of 20 Romania Country Reports on Human Rights Practices - 2004 Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor February 28, 2005 Romania is a constitutional democracy with a multiparty, bicameral parliamentary system, a prime minister who is the head of government, and a president who is the head of state. Traian Basescu was elected President on December 12 in elections characterized by irregularities, but which were judged generally free and fair. At year's end, Basescu appointed center-right a Liberal-Democratic (PNL-PD) Alliance leader, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, as Prime Minister to lead a new government composed primarily of the PNL-PD, the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), and the Romanian Humanist Party (PUR). This followed four years of government led by Social Democratic Party (PSD) Prime Minister Adrian Nastase and President Ion Iliescu. The Constitution provides for an independent judiciary; however, in practice, the judiciary remained subject to political influence. Widespread corruption remained a problem, although the Government took initial, but only partial, steps to address the problem. The National Police are primarily responsible for law enforcement, the Gendarmerie for preserving public order, and the Border Police for maintaining border security. The Ministry of Administration and Interior (MOAI) supervises these organizations. The military has primary responsibility for protection against external threats. An internal intelligence service assesses threats to national security but has no law enforcement powers. Civilian authorities maintained effective control of security and intelligence organizations, although some concerns were expressed regarding the possible misuse of intelligence agencies for political purposes.

With the incorporation of the television offering oflaSexta , Atresmedia Televisión adds to its outstanding presence in other markets (radio, advertising or cinema) a leading proposal in the television business: in total eight channels (Antena 3, laSexta, Neox, Nova, Nitro, xplora, laSexta3TODOCINE and Gol TV, the latter un- der a lease arrangement), which consolidates the Company as the leading com- munication group. • The Significance of Daily Soaps in the Everyday Life of Children and Young People Maya Götz
1 The significance of daily soaps in the everyday life of children and young people Maya Götz Anybody who ever has anything to do with girls, be it either in the work-world or family, is well accustomed to the programmes Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten (Good times, bad times) (subsequently referred to as GZSZ), Marienhof (Marienhof) , Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden love) or Unter uns (Among us). Amongst 10- to 15-year-olds these series reach their peak viewing rates, and the lists of favourite programmes are dominated monotonously by GZSZ. The girls themselves often describe their passion for soap operas as “an addiction”. It is often difficult for outsiders to relate to the fact that these girls “always” have to sit in front of the TV at a certain time and then “urgently” discuss the programme with their friend/s. In an overall view of these programmes, the lack of quality in production aesthetics and melodramatic content features is a striking characteristic. Therefore, it seems strange how significant “their” soap is for the girls. This is where the study of the IZI has its starting point and investigates the significance of daily soaps in the everyday life of children and youth (Götz 2002, 1999). Interviews were conducted with “soap fans”, who frequently watched one of the four German daily soaps, the children's weekly soap Schloss Einstein (the Einstein Castle) or the real-life soap Big Brother, and considered one of these their favourite programme. Method This study is based on 401 interviews with children and young people between 6 and 19 years old, who stated they frequently watch one of the six soaps mentioned above as their favourite programme.

Even a soap opera, such as Lindenstraße and its website, can be used to teach language and culture effectively. This thesis explores the problems a teacher may come across in the foreign language classroom when teaching culture as well as other aspects of the German language. The thesis also provides suggestions on how to resolve them. Furthermore, it examines the opportunities for the classroom offered by Lindenstraße online and includes a lesson plan that makes use of the multiple features of the Lindenstraße website.
