Friday – 6 September 2013 • PLEASE leave your bicycle at Ulco – Ricketts Hall on Friday, 6 September 2013. • SAFE storage for bicycles left at Ulco (during Friday night). • Cyclist's REGISTRATION Number to be collected at Ulco. • Own transport to Lyfontein.

Directions to Ricketts Hall (From Kimberley to ULCO )  Drive from Kimberley to Barkly-West on the R31.  Follow the R31 towards  Drive over the Harts River bridge.  Continue passed the Schmidsdrift (R370) turn-off.  Drive over a “fly-over” train bridge.  Turn left into Ulco.

Saturday – 7 September 2013 • Only Cyclists will be transported from Lyfontein to Ulco • (on Saturday morning). Cars remain at base camp, Lyfontein. • Bus leaves at 8:30 from Lyfontein to Ulco. • Logistic vehicles accompany front and last cyclists. • Water points along route. • First Aid and Paramedic personnel are present. • Spare cycle-parts available from Berg Agricultural Union • (please pay for any parts taken on Saturday evening) • Prize-giving takes place at end of race. (all participants) • Find own camping spot on lawn or under trees (can become cold). • Toilet facilities at the START and FINISH points. • Ablution facilities are at base camp. • Meals: Saturday evening – braai Sunday - breakfast and lunch • Cash bar available after the race. • Bring own toiletries, warm clothes, tent and medication. • Bring your own bicycle and maintenance tools.

DIRECTIONS:

From Kimberley to Lyfontein :  Drive from Kimberley to Barkly-West on the R31.  Follow the R31 towards Delportshoop and Ulco.  The Delportshoop Turn-off is 67km from Kimberley.  Drive a further 4km until you come to the turn-off towards Schmidsdrift (R370).  Drive for 25km on the gravel road.  You will see a “blue steel kudu” on the left side of the road and a farm name board “Mosesberg - Shaw” on the right.  Turn right onto the farm road and follow further directions.

From Griquatown to Lyfontein :  Follow the until you take the R370 turn-off to Delportshoop, (81km from Griquatown) or (69km from Kimberley).  Drive past shanties on left-hand side of road.  Follow the R370 gravel road for 6km, then turn right.  Drive for 16,5km.  You will see a “blue steel kudu” on the right side of the road and a farm name board “Mosesberg - Shaw” on the left.  Turn left onto the farm road and follow further directions.

From Postmasburg to Lyfontein :  Drive from Postmasburg to Ulco on the R31.  Follow the R31 a further 5 km until you come to the turn-off Schmidsdrift (R370)  Drive for 25km on the gravel road. THE TOUR DE GHAAP ULTRA MOUNTAIN BIKE MARATHON

Saturday and Sunday, 7 – 8 September 2013 will see the tenth running of the Tour de Ghaap Ultra Mountain Bike Marathon. It begins at Ulco, mining town of AfriSam SA (previously Holcim SA). It is situated approximately 80 kms North-West of Kimberley on the R31 en route to Postmasburg. On the first day a distance of 68 kms is covered, and on the second day 38 kms.

Day one places emphasis on speed and endurance. Day two concentrates on technical skills as the route winds through mountainous terrain. Good front-suspension is a must for day one. Full suspension is advisable for day two!

The organizers provide basic repair parts for the bicycles. On route at every 15 km intervals are water and energy points. At the base camp, Lyfontein, is food and drinks provided from the Saturday until the Sunday. Cyclists and their families are responsible for their own tents and camping gear. All cyclists sleep over at Lyfontein on the Friday evening. Basic washing and ablution facilities are available.

For more comfort and luxury, contact the Diamond Guesthouse (053 561 0125) or Borrelskop Country Lodge (053 561 0114) at Delportshoop, or Jean's Lodge at Ulco (072 444 0889) or Lodge (083 443 3358). The various lodges are approximately 40-50 kilometres from Lyfontein.

On Saturday evening, a full braai is given and a full lunch served on Sunday. A cash bar will be available.

The race starts at Ulco, 10:00 on Saturday morning. The little ones take part in a Mini-race at 16:00. Departure after the event and lunch on Sunday will be at 14:00. The costs for the event vary per category per rider. Check the entry form for special cost-arrangements for the non-riding family members.
