The Year 8 enrichment programme got under way during early October. The first enrichment focus this year was all about ‘Money Matters!’. It gave Year 8 the chance to sit down with their peers and consider why managing money could be important, and how on earth we can go about saving a little bit of cash. Part of the morning involved an activity about making the right choice for a bank account. Well done to Ben Reynolds of 8C who commented that he is putting away money every single week to save for the future. Drama Club member Poppy Hasoon reports:

“This year the Year 8 drama club will be putting on a performance called ‘Cloudbusting.’ Everyone taking part is very excited as it is a completely new theme to last year’s performance: Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream. The story is told through the eyes of Sam, a boy who is played by the twins Liz and Anne Counsell. He is just an ordinary school child in Year 8, with an ordinary life and ordinary friends. As Year 8 started their second year at Chew Valley School, the opening weeks of term 1 saw the welcoming of new prospective Y6 students and parents from the surrounding area, to visit the school and have a look around during the very successful open mornings. Miss Straw (Assistant Headteacher) coordinated a super team of Y8 Tour Guides from the seven tutor groups, to show everybody around over four mornings. Billy Thompson (8H) commented “Being a tour guide was great fun! We showed round many enthusiastic parents and children eager to be taken around the school. It was a big success with our tours. Many of the parents and nervous children asked us lots of questions. Just enough for us to handle! I would definitely do it again if I was given the opportunity”.

Mr Loynton’s snaps around school!

Finally, after being well received during last year’s newsletters, Mr Loynton has gathered a few more photos from his walks around school during Term 1 catching Year 8 hard at work and busy with extra- curricular activities. A bit of Art, some Library rest and relaxation, street dance and a squash court face-off; can you spot yourself this time?
