To date, in the Livorno port, twenty alien species have been recorded, fifteen of which are established. 2 - Presence, abundance, size and sex ratio of the mud crab Rhithropanopeus harrisii, a newly introduced invasive species, have been assessed in six sampling stations along the brackish-water canals between Pisa and Livorno towns. Samplings were carried out in summer and fall 2013. 3 - R. harrisii appeared fully established in the majority of the sampling stations. Reproduction occurs between May and July and sex ratio varied between reproductive and post-reproductive period, with females more abundant before the reproduction. 4 - Individuals of R. harrisii were more abundant in stations close to Livorno port, whereas they were scarce or sporadic in the northernmost stations, close to the main flow of the Arno River. 5 - Due to the high invasive potential of R. harrisii, a closer monitoring of brackish-water environments along the north-western Italian coast is needed, in order to assess and prevent further invasions. -

The scale similarity is examined by using a taxonomic metrics based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence and a related index of similarity. 2 - Data were collected monthly during one year in four dominant habitat types, which were classified on the basis of main physiognomic traits (type of vegetation and anthropogenic impact). Three of the selected habitats were natural (macroalgal beds, bare sediment and Phragmitetum) and one anthropogenically modified (the licensed area for Manila clam farming). Each habitat was sampled in a variable number of stations representative of specific microhabitats, with three replicates each. 3 - Of the 47 taxa identified, only few species were found exclusively in one habitat type, with low densities. -

Meštrovića 63, 21000 Split, Croatia 2 Croatian Biospeleological Society, Demetrova 1, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia 3Rudjer Boskovic Institute, Bijenicka 54, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia *Corresponding author, e-mail: [email protected] Non-indigenous invasive bivalve arcuatula senhousia was recorded in the area of the eastern Adriatic Sea in Neretva River Delta, in 2010, among tubes of well established aggregations of non-indigenous species of sedentary polychaete Ficopomatus enigmaticus at depths from 0.5 to 1 m. It was very abundant, with the maximal abundance of 102 N/400 cm2, only in very thick fouling aggregations, but any traces of colonization of this species on soft sediments were not observed. Community that inhabits aggregations of invasive polychaete was described in the paper. Occurrence of arcuatula senhousia in wider area of very important port for international maritime transport suggests that the ballast waters could be possible vector of introduction of this species. The analysis of the sediment revealed that the species was introduced recently. In contrary, Ficopomatus enigmaticus was introduced in the area earlier. El desarrollo gonádico fue analizado utilizando las técnicas histológicas usuales. Las fases del desarrollo fueron categorizadas en cinco estadios: indiferenciación, gametogénesis, madurez, desove y postdesove. Tanto las hembras como los machos presentaron las mismas fases. El desove de la población fue continuo durante cuatro meses en 1988 (junio a septiembre) y al menos durante seis meses en 1989 (abril a septiembre). Ambos años con un máximo de actividad reproductora en agosto. ABSTRACT Adult clams Chione califomiensis (Broderip, 1835) were sampled monthly between May 1988 and September 1989, from intertidal populations in Puerto San Carlos, Bahía Magdalena, Baja California Sur. Gonadal development was monitored using standard histological methods. Observed gametogenic progression was categorized by five stages: inactive, gametogenesis, ripe, spawning and spent. Both male and female clams displayed the same stages. Spawning in the population occurred continuously for four months in 1988 (June to September) and for six months in 1989 (April to September), both years with a peak of spawning activity in August. -
