  • July 31, 2021
July 31, 2021 Running a bit late today, but it couldn't be helped. The movie ended at church around 10:30 PM, and then clean-up, it was after midnight before I got to bed. This is probably early. Today is the final day of baseball for my grandsons, so I'll be heading over for the games that begin at 8:30 today. All three boys were in VBS this week, so it was a bonus to able to see all of them every day. The older they get, the less opportunity there will be to see them, especially together. We were trying to schedule some type of vacation together this year with everyone, but it hasn't worked out yet. I'll keep praying for a family vacation in 2022. Last year we were all praying for 2021 to arrive, and it was slightly better after a few months, now things are looking sketchy again, and we're back to praying for another year to come. Every day I pray for an end to this virus, and all of its mutations. It seems that there is a new variant every few weeks. Please join me in praying that our God, Who has complete power and control of all things would bring an end to this global calamity. Pray to Him in the name of Jesus, Who gave up everything to give us everything. In His name God the Father hears all of our prayers, make yours heard today. Some of the most important words in our lives should be "In the name of Jesus," start your morning with Him today.

  • “Heart Like a Wheel”—Linda Ronstadt (1974) Added to the National Registry: 2013 Essay by Cary O’Dell
“Heart Like a Wheel”—Linda Ronstadt (1974) Added to the National Registry: 2013 Essay by Cary O’Dell Original album Original label Peter Asher Linda Ronstadt’s 1974 album “Heart Like a Wheel” was her fifth as a solo artist. And though she had previously enjoyed some chart success with the group The Stone Poneys (their recording of “Different Drum” was a hit in 1967) and achieved some success as a solo artist in 1970 with the song “Long Long Time,” “Heart Like a Wheel” is considered her breakthrough album and, to some, her career masterwork. Considering Ronstadt’s “Heart” success, musically and commercially, it is not surprising that it was this album that also marked the first time Ronstadt had an entire album steered by music producer extraordinaire Peter Asher. Asher, a former performer (he was the Peter in Peter & Gordon), began managing and producing other performers in late 1960s. One of his first clients was a young troubadour named James Taylor. In the early ‘70s, after an introduction by Taylor’s sister, Kate, Asher began managing and producing Linda Ronstadt. Once joined up with Ronstadt, Asher and the California-based singer soon became something of a dynamic duo. “Heart” marked the beginning of a long and extraordinarily successful collaboration; every subsequent album Ronstadt would ever record with Asher—all 13 of them-- would eventually be certified either gold or platinum. Since her debut on vinyl with the Stone Poneys and as a solo act via her early albums “Hand Sown…Home Grown” (1969), “Silk Purse” (1970) and “Linda Ronstadt” (1972), Ronstadt had been working steadily in pushing the country genre toward the pop mainstream.

  • Linda by Diana Burbano
Label Me Latina/o Fall 2018 Volume VIII 1 Linda By Diana Burbano A super badass story of finding your inner hero. A long monologue for a Chicana. CAST: La Linda: A Chicana woman. TIME: Now. A cute Los Angeles bungalow. A woman comes out the front door carrying a box. She is singing "Los Laureles" from Linda Ronstadt’s “Canciones de Mi Padre.” She ends with a loud Mariachi cry. She stops, listening. Laughs. LA LINDA: If mi abuelita was still here, she would’ve answered back just as loud, and we would’ve danced around the kitchen, using cucharas for castanets until mi papa would yell at us to quit with the tonterias and get him a chela. She sighs. You can’t go home again, que no? But what can you do? This old neighborhood is getting so gentrified! The local paletero is some twenty-year-old white with wax in his mustache. Indicating the box. I’m glad I did an idiot check. I found this stuffed in the closet of mi ’ita’s old room. She sets down the box, which is labeled "Mi Linda." She opens it. Takes out Linda Ronstadt’s “Living in the USA” record. Look at this! Makin’ the vinyl-lovin’ hipsters jealous. I wanted to BE Linda Ronstadt. For such a tiny little thing, Linda had such a big sound! I LOVED her god-so-beautiful voice and her cheesy, sexy look. I remember wearing the tube socks and short shorts. Pulls a pair of roller skates out of the box.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

Just One Look: The Very Best of LINDA RONSTADT 30 unsterbliche Songs der fantastischen Sängerin aus fast drei Dekaden auf zwei CDs! Ab 21.
