Department of Music Presents Duo Violin Recital Olga Kaler, Violin Carla Trynchuk, Violin Beilin Han, Piano 8:15 PM Saturday, September 19, 2015 Howard Performing Arts Center PROGRAM and was honored as a Young Artist in 2003. In 2004, Ms. Han became a prize winner of the "Vianna Da Motta International Piano Competition" in Portugal. She was invited to perform Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto with University of Kansas Sonata No. 5 in E minor for Two Violins, Op. 3, No. 5 Jean Marie Leclair Symphony Orchestra, Mozart Piano Concerto with T'ang Quartet Allegro ma poco (1697-1764) in Singapore and Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 with Portugal Gulbenkian Orchestra. Gavotte (Andante grazioso) Presto Ms. Han has toured internationally as a concert pianist performing in such countries as China, Portugal, Spain, and throughout the US. She also appeared on the radio show in Sonata for Two Violins, Op. 56 Sergei Prokofiev Singapore, US and TV Show in Shanghai, China. In 2008, Ms. Han graduated from Roosevelt University where she attended Andante cantabile (1891-1953) her Artistic Diploma with Dr. Soloman Mikowsky (Manhatten Allegro Music School) and Mr.Meng-Chieh Liu (Curtis Institute of Music).     TERI “Natsumatsuri” Suzuki Method Summer Festival at Home 2020 Due to the spread of COVID-19, TERI had no choice but to cancel the 69th Summer School. This is disappointing for everyone. Therefore, TERI decided to offer an opportunity to share a fun time with Suzuki families from all over the world by planning an online “Natsumatsuri” (Summer Festival) which will be held on the first weekend in August. "Natsumatsuri" will take place over two days, August 1st (Sat.) and 2nd (Sun.), with a variety of programs planned. This event will be streamed to the world from the TERI hall in Matsumoto, the birthplace of the Suzuki Method. Miura Concert Conducted by Eiji Oue, Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Prince Mahidol Hall, Mahidol University to Take Place on Third Anniversary of 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan Pronunciation Guide: Eiji Oue = A-jee OO-way The Tokyo Philharmonic has the longest history and tradition of any orchestra in Japan, having been originally established in Nagoya in 1911. As plans were being made for its centenary celebrations in 2011, a devastating earthquake and tsunami struck east Japan, challenging the nation with an unprecedented crisis. The orchestra’s centenary plans were scuttled, as an entire culture adjusted to a solemn new reality. A cherished dream of the Tokyo Philharmonic will finally come true, with a 100 th anniversary world tour that will encompass six countries on three continents. Internationally renowned Japanese conductor Eiji Oue will lead the orchestra for the tour. The first concert – Tuesday, March 11, 2014, 7:30 PM at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City – will mark the U.S. debut of the orchestra, as well as the third anniversary (to the day) of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.     Patricia Hayes Andrews Young scholars hoping to shape a career with a far-reaching and long-lasting legacy would do well to emulate the academic life of Patricia Hayes Andrews. Her research into gender differences in communication, her many accomplishments as an associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, and her leadership as director of the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program in the Department of Communication and Culture all have been framed and motivated by her generous spirit and genuine interest in supporting IU, her students, and her colleagues. Pat is a Hoosier through and through, earning all of her degrees from IU and spending her entire academic career here. Her B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, in speech and theater with a minor in French, was awarded in 1970; her M.A. in communication theory and speech education in 1971; and her Ph.D. in communication theory and research in 1974. In 1975 she joined the Department of Speech Communication (now the Department of Communication and Culture) as an assistant professor. In addition to her many published articles, Pat has authored or co-authored five textbooksseveral of which have been revised and published in multiple editions. Not only the field, but also the Department of Communication and Culture bears her impress, and this is partly through the new courses Pat developed. An undergraduate sequence in organizational communication addressed an area of interest among students that otherwise was not being served. A graduate course in pedagogy, designed to train and support associate instructors teaching undergraduate courses within the department, has provided a forum in which graduate students share their teaching experiences and strategies and an opportunity for them to draw upon Pats extensive research and experience in communication pedagogy.
