Postgame Notes & Quotes Stanley Cup Playoffs | Round 2 | Game 5 Postgame Notes & Quotes Stanley Cup Playoffs | Round 2 | Game 5 San Jose Sharks 2, Colorado Avalanche 1 Saturday, May 4, 2019 Philipp Grubauer finished with 37 saves, a postseason career high. Tyson Jost registered his first career playoff goal. Erik Johnson’s five hits is a postseason career high. Nathan MacKinnon saw his eight-game point streak (six goals, seven assists) come to an end. His eight-game stretch was the longest of anyone in this year’s playoffs and the longest by an Avalanche player in the postseason since Peter Forsberg (eight) in 2002. Nikita Zadorov had six hits to bring his total for the postseason to 50, ranked for the third most in the playoffs. Colorado killed 4-of-5 penalties and now has an 87.5% success rate on the penalty kill in Round 2, the third best in the second round. The Avs’ 22 blocked shots are their second most of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs (25, April 28 at San Jose). Colorado LW Gabriel Landeskog On Game 5: “I thought they had a good start. We knew they were going to come hard here in their own building, I thought we weathered the storm OK. The first period, I think on the stats we finished with five shots or something but I think we missed the net probably on 14 of them. It could have been a different period if we just capitalize on some of those scoring chances or hit the net at least, give them a chance. I thought we got better as the game went along. In the second period, I thought we really started finding our legs and started getting going. Power play wasn’t good enough today but we still found a way to get a league. We know they are a good team, they are going to push back. Once they got that lead we couldn’t find a way to get enough pressure towards their net, we had some looks but there wasn’t enough desperation in our O- zone play I felt like.” On Going Home For Game 6: “We would have liked to come home 3-2 obviously but the reality of the matter is we are not. We just got to win a hockey game at home. Extend this thing, give us a chance to go to a Game 7. Game 7 anything can happen. We feel good about ourselves, we know what we can do with home ice and like I said, Game 7 anything can happen.” Colorado C Tyson Jost On Game 5: “Its down to the nitty gritty here and it was a huge game. Credit to them, they played a good hockey game, but I thought we did too at times. We just need to bring a full 60 next game. We know how big it is and know how important it is.” On Learning Throughout The Series: “As the series goes on, the games get harder and harder and they get more important. We just got to step up, we know that. It is a huge game for us, it’s important and everyone in this locker room wants it really bad. Obviously we wanted a better result today, but the great thing about playoffs is we have a chance to go and do it all again next game.” On Looking Ahead To Game 6: “We will be in front of our own fans and they have been great all playoffs, it is exciting playing in front of them. Honestly this is where you want to be as a hockey player, this is kind of what you dream as a little kid playing hockey in the street and on the outdoor rink, this is what you dream of, those type playoff games and I know everybody in this locker room is up for it and we are going to step up.” .
