Postgame Notes & Quotes POSTGAME NOTES & QUOTES COLORADO AVALANCHE 4, SAN JOSE SHARKS 3 (OT) STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS | ROUND 2, GAME 6 | MAY 6, 2019 SERIES TIED 3-3 First Star TEAM NOTES Gabriel Landeskog (1g) Colorado is now 4-4 in Game 6 of a Stanley Cup Playoff series when facing a 3-2 series deficit (since 1995-96). Of the three previous series in which the Second Star Avalanche has forced a Game 7 when trailing 3-2, the club has gone on to win J.T. Compher (2g, 1a) two of those series: the 2002 Conference Semifinal against San Jose and the 2001 Stanley Cup Final against New Jersey. Third Star Marc-Edouard Vlasic (2g) The Avalanche and the Sharks will play a Game 7 for the second time in five all-time head-to-head playoff series (also: 2002 Conference Semifinals). TEAM STATS The Avalanche/Nordiques franchise is 6-7 all-time in Game 7’s, including a 4-6 record since moving to Denver. Avalanche Colorado is 4-1 at home this postseason and is 10-1-0 in its last 11 home Shots: 26 contests dating back to March 17. The Avs are 15-3-1 over its last 19 outings at Pepsi Center going back to Feb. 18. Power Play: 0-3 After going 5-14 when playing beyond 60 minutes during the regular season, Penalty Kill: 1-1 the Avalanche is 3-0 in overtime during the playoffs. Faceoffs: 53% INDIVIDUAL NOTES J.T. Compher registered the first multi-point and multi-goal postseason game San Jose of his career. He also registered four hits, a playoff career high. Compher became the 10th player in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to record Shots: 22 three or more points in an elimination game and first since Alex Tanguay reg- istered three (2g/1a) in Game 7 of the 2001 Stanley Cup Final vs. New Jersey. Power Play: 0-1 His +3 plus/minus rating ties for the best single-game performance on the Penalty Kill: 3-3 team in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs (Ian Cole, +3 vs. Calgary, April 15, 2019). Faceoffs: 47% Gabriel Landeskog scored his second career playoff game-winning goal (also: April 19, 2014 vs. Minnesota, first round) and his first career overtime winner in the postseason. Landeskog is the fifth different player in Avalanche/ Nordiques franchise history to score an overtime goal in an elimination game. Cale Makar tallied an assist and now has six points (1g/5a) in the 2019 Stan- ley Cup Playoffs, ranked third among all NHL rookies in postseason points and first in assists. Tyson Jost has goals in consecutive playoff games for the first time in his career. POSTGAME NOTES & QUOTES COLORADO AVALANCHE 4, SAN JOSE SHARKS 3 (OT) STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS | ROUND 2, GAME 6 | MAY 6, 2019 SERIES TIED 3-3 Brent Burns is the fourth active player listed as a defenseman to score at least 20 career postseason goals, joining Kris Letang (21), Dustin Byfuglien (21) and Brent Seabrook (20). Burns also established a San Jose Sharks franchise record for most goals in a series by a defenseman. The last NHL defenseman to score more than four goals in a series was Ed Jovanovski in the 2003 Conference Semifinals with Vancouver (five goals in seven games played). QUOTES Colorado LW Gabriel Landeskog On The Team’s Resiliency: “I mean, we talked about that too going into overtime and even when they scored to tie it up at the end of the second. I mean, we knew it wasn’t supposed to be easy, no one said it was going to be. For us, we just kind of tried to reload as frustrating as it was to keep losing those leads. We tried to reset and get back at it.” On His Game-Winning Goal: “It wasn’t very pretty, but got it in behind them on the forecheck and we were able to get down and work them. I don’t know if they rimmed it out or if we made a low-to-high pass to Cale (Colorado D Cale Makar). He made a nice heads-up play to get it to me in front of the net along the ice and I was able to handle it and just kind of whack at it, to be honest with you. I didn’t have much time and every time I try to pick a corner, it hasn’t been working for me, so I just decided to whack at this one and it worked.” Colorado LW J.T. Compher On The Avs’ Performance: “It was a huge effort by our team tonight. You know, we knew it was win or go home. A bunch of guys stepped up tonight – Landy (Colorado LW Gabriel Landeskog) in OT, guys throughout the game, Grubi (Colorado G Philipp Grubauer) all night. He was unbelievable for us tonight like he has been all playoffs. The plan was to force Game 7 and we were able to do that.” On His Performance: “I tried to come out skating, come out physical, I think that’s when I’m at my best. I was able to bury my opportunities tonight, which I haven’t had the ability to do the first five games this series and it felt good to help us force Game 7.” Colorado C Tyson Jost On The Team’s Resiliency: “Fight a lot of adversity there. I mean give credit to them, they fought back there and took advantage of some of their chances, but I thought we were skating really well. We were all over them. We were all over pucks. We were buzzing around. It’s fun when you’re playing like that too. We’ve done it throughout the whole year, we’ve fought a lot of adversity and we are really resilient and it’s nice to see that again.” On His Performance In Playoffs:“Honestly, I’ve felt good all playoffs. Ever since I got called back up from the (AHL affiliate Colorado) Eagles, I think I’ve been playing really good hockey. I’ve been playing the way I know how. I mean playoffs for me, that’s a time when you elevate your game and that’s what good players do and I feel like I’ve been doing that all the way from the Calgary series to now. It’s nice to get bumped up and get more minutes but at the end of the day, all I care about is winning. It’s playoff hockey so you’re going to do anything for the team to help the team win. It’s nice that I am contributing right now, but the wins feel way better. I want to keep this rolling and go out for a big Game 7.” POSTGAME NOTES & QUOTES COLORADO AVALANCHE 4, SAN JOSE SHARKS 3 (OT) STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS | ROUND 2, GAME 6 | MAY 6, 2019 SERIES TIED 3-3 San Jose D Marc-Edouard Vlasic On The Overtime Goal: “They won it. We had a chance to finish them and we didn’t.” On Game 7 At Home: “Well now after we lost, yeah, but we wanted to finish it tonight. Now we have to do it at home on Wednesday.” San Jose C Logan Couture On Colorado’s Depth: “Their depth guys beat us tonight. We got beat by (Colorado RW) J.T. Compher, (Colorado C) Tyson Jost, their second, third, fourth line.” On The Game: “We turned pucks over again, I thought we were soft in a lot of areas. I thought we were soft break- ing out of our end. Once we forecheck, we play in their end and we have good shifts and sustain pressure. So we’ve just got to be smart with the puck, not turn it over, win some more battles and play in their end.”.

  • Unpredictability Continues Into Second Round of 2019
UNPREDICTABILITY CONTINUES INTO SECOND ROUND OF 2019 PLAYOFFS The 2019 Conference Finals are comprised of two of the top six teams from the regular-season – Boston (No. 2) and San Jose (No. 6), who finished second in their respective conferences – and two teams that ranked outside the top 10 – Carolina (No. 11) and St. Louis (No. 12). * The Blues and Hurricanes’ journeys to the third round are each marked by strong performances in the 2019 calendar year – St. Louis ranked last overall in the NHL standings on Jan. 2 while Carolina also found itself among the bottom nine on that day. * This marked the fourth time in six years under the current playoff format - and 14th time in NHL history - that the second round required multiple Game 7s. The two Second Round Game 7s garnered record in- market ratings for all four clubs involved. * St. Louis advanced to the Conference Finals by winning the third Game 7 this postseason to require overtime - the most ever in one playoff year. * There have been 15 overtime contests this postseason - five more than the entire 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs (10 of 84 GP). * The Hurricanes won a pair of one-goal games to take a 2-0 series lead back to Raleigh, where they set a franchise record for attendance and completed their first-ever best-of-seven sweep. The score was tied or within one goal for 85% of the series (206:23 of 244:04), including each of the first 183:06 – Carolina took the first multi-goal lead of the series in the final minute of Game 3.

EAST FINAL: CAR vs. BOS WEST FINAL: STL vs. SJ Game 1 – Tonight 8 ET on NBCSN Game 1 – Saturday 8 ET on NBC A 2019 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS UPDATE May 9, 2019 Last Night: Sharks def. Avalanche 3-2 (Win Series 4-3) For the second time this postseason, San Jose hosted a Game 7 and came out of it victorious by the smallest of margins, outlasting the Avalanche with a 1-goal win as Martin Jones stopped 27 of 29 (14 saves in 3rd period) including a barrage of shots in the final minutes.
