Carlton CITY MANAGER Over 90 years ago, Luther Halland founded what is now Hallandale Beach. Our City has evolved from a small farming community to one of the fastest growing cities in Florida. In recent years, the City has sought balanced growth and preservation of what makes our community an attractive destination – our beaches, waterways and parks; public infrastructure; a thriving business sector; and most of all the friendly, diverse and forward-looking character of our citizens. Message A commitment to our prosperity, our people and our place means we must carry the City’s legacy forward to the future. This Sustainability Action Plan is just the beginning of this process. We know our region faces challenges posed by a growing population, limited resources, accelerating technologies and a changing climate. Beginning with this plan, we will strive to lead by example, ensuring City operations are low-impact, efficient and responsive. We will also work to improve our community by implementing policies that protect the environment, use resources responsibly, support vulnerable members of our community and proactively adapt to our changing world. In the process of developing this Sustainability Action Plan, many staff members of diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise evaluated practices and developed projects to improve performance, which will lead to an estimated $2.2 million in tax dollars saved over the next ten years. If adopted, the City will reduce water use by 20% through efficient fixtures and reusing water for irrigation. Energy conservation measures that will cut the city’s utility bills by about $200,000 per year have been identified. The City’s network of bike and pedestrian paths will be expanded, enhancing the health and safety of our citizens. In the area of materials minimization, staff is developing a program to divert 30% of the City’s waste through recycling by 2022. This program could save $1 million over ten years by increasing recycling and reducing disposal fees. The vision of sustainability included in this Sustainability Action Plan will help make Hallandale Beach the vibrant, innovative and resilient community it should be – now and for future generations. With direction from the City Commission, staff is committed to working on the actions that have been identified.The City will continue to work with the Southeast Regional Florida Climate Compact, Broward County, our peer local governments and the citizens of Hallandale Beach as we accomplish the sustainability goals.     THE IMPACT OF BRAND IMAGE ON CONSUMER PRE-PURCHASE DECISION- MAKING PROCESS A Qualitative Study on Sustainable Fashion Consumers Mariam Aptsiauri & Veera Könni Department of Business Administration International Business Program Degree Project, 30 Credits, Spring 2021 Supervisor: Galina Biedenbach ABSTRACT The fashion industry’s massive ecological footprint and the throwaway culture of fast fashion have contributed to a growing global interest in sustainability and ethics in fashion consumption. Consumers have become more conscious of the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry. Hence, marketers in the fashion industry have realised that creating a favourable brand image establishes positive consumer perceptions. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the impact of brand image on consumers' sustainable fashion consumption. Furthermore, the thesis aims to provide a deeper understanding of the consumer pre-purchase decision-making process concerning sustainable fashion. Researchers have agreed that understanding consumer pre-purchase considerations helps explain consumer decision-making since they highly influence purchasing decisions. A research gap could be identified since there is no study examining the three concepts combined; brand image, consumer pre-purchase decision-making process, and sustainable fashion. Moreover, there is a need for academic research that updates knowledge on sustainable fashion consumers. From prior research, it was recognisable that more in-depth research on different brand image dimensions is needed to understand the underlying factors affecting sustainable fashion consumption. This thesis focuses on the impact of brand image by examining the eight brand associations containing the brand's meaning for the consumers hence examining the impact of these brand associations on each pre-purchase stage.

This study uses online Conjoint Analysis and an environmental sustainability consciousness questionnaire to measure the extent that environmental sustainability consciousness predicts the relative importance female consumers attribute to sustainably packaged eyeshadow palettes. A fake eyeshadow product, Aurora Gold, is used to simulate a market study without alerting the participants to the true intention of measuring sustainability consciousness. The results confirm that women’s environmental sustainability consciousness does predict the utility women derive from sustainable makeup packaging and therefore women’s purchasing choice. However, this relationship is limited in that the environmental sustainability consciousness factor only explains 7.2% of the relative importance given to sustainable packaging. Further analysis on the research data shows that as the frequency of makeup use increases, the importance given to sustainable packaging in relation to the other product attributes decreases. Moreover, a high proportion of favourite makeup brands indicated do not offer sustainably packaged eyeshadow palette alternatives and post-survey interviews highlight a sense of consumer helplessness in increasing sustainable product consumption.

In addition, we evaluate how those practices affect consumers’ perceived satisfaction levels and their predisposition to engage in positive Word of Mouth (WOM). For the purpose of this study, the context of an emerging economy, Peru, is taken as reference. To do this, we propose a structural equation model based on a representative sample of 403 consumers. The data analysis—using the PLS software package—confirms that corporate social responsibility (CSR) positively influences both corporate reputation and brand image. These two factors jointly have an impact on consumers’ perceived satisfaction levels, which in turn help to explain the flow of positive WOM. This work is a pioneering study of the relationship between the aforementioned factors in the context of emerging economies. The final part of the article discusses the main theoretical implications and recommendations for business practice. Su stainable development, which is development that “meets our needs today, without compromising the ability meet the needs of future generations” was first brought to light at the Earth Summit in 1987 (Bärlund, n.d.). With the growing numbers of travelers world wide, the hospitality industry was aware that environmental changes and pollution could potentially paralyze their industry and they became among the first to adopt more sustainable practices in their hotels and restaurants .
