TUESDAY, 15 DECEMBER 2020 DEIRDRE TO VISIT GALILEO IN 2021 TARA STUD'S A new direction in the extraordinary odyssey of the Japanese HOMECOMING KING mare Deirdre (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}BReizend {Jpn, by Special Week {Jpn}) began on Monday when the 6-year-old left her adopted home of Newmarket to begin her stud career in Ireland. Her first mating is planned to be with Coolmore's champion sire Galileo (Ire). Bred by Northern Farm and raced by Toji Morita, Deirdre's first three seasons of racing were restricted largely to Japan, where she won five races, including the G1 Shuka Sho. She also took third in the G1 Dubai Turf on her first start outside her native country. Following her return visit to the Dubai World Cup meeting in 2019, Deirdre travelled on to Hong Kong and then to Newmarket, which has subsequently remained her base for an ambitious international campaign. WEST COAST Flatter – Caressing by Honour and Glory 2014 Bay l 16.2 Hands “An Eclipse Award winning champion, West Coast is by an outstanding sire son of A.P. Indy, out of a ChampionTwo-Year-Old Filly. West Coast earned a title as Champion Three-Year-Old Colt with five consecutive victories, four in stakes events, and ran 1-2-3 in six consecutive grade one events, including when capturing the Travers Stakes (G1) and Pennsylvania Derby (G1). He is by Flatter, a leading stallion son of A.P. Indy, and sire of more than 50 stakes winners, and out of Caressing, Champion and Breeders’ Cup (G1) winner at two.“ The offspring of West Coast will be free of Northern Dancer at four generations on their sire’s side, and Flatter has crossed well with a wide variety of broodmare sires from that line. The cross with mares from the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer has been particulary productive with seven stakes winners, including graded stakes winners Classic Point and Mad Flatter out of mares by Langfuhr and Honor Grades (who gives inbreeding to the dam of A.P. Indy), and there are also stakes winners out of mares by War Front – who appears particularly interesting here, giving inbreeding to Relaunch and a full-sister – Danzig Connection, Ghazi and Military (who would be intriguing here).

DAVID COYLE DAVID KEENELAND.COM K SUMMER 2018 27 spotlight on MIKE RYAN o call Mike Ryan just a bloodstock agent is an understatement. The 35-plus-year veteran of the Thoroughbred breeding industry tdoes far more than cherry-pick pros- pects from a sales catalog. He is also a successful breeder and pinhooker — scooping up under-the-radar yearlings to flip at a profit — a successful own- er, and a trusted adviser on everything from choosing a trainer to mating a mare. To say he excels at buying horses — well, another underestimation. Ryan has more than a flair for finding a year- ling with the right stuff. What he has is more like a prophetic vision: He can eyeball a gangly colt or filly and come up Inspecting horses on the farms often means navigating fences and other with a pretty clear picture of what the obstacles. youngster will look like charging down the stretch as a 3-year-old. And never has Ryan’s sagacity been more on dis- play than in the past year or so as hors- es with his name in their provenance have racked up win after win in classic races and Breeders’ Cup contests. Just take a look at 2017.

COMPILED SPECIFICALLY FOR Tempo BROODMARE ANALYSIS REPORT A broodmare’s nicking analysis with up to 50 potential stallions Copyright © 2011 The Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. BROODMARE ANALYSIS REPORT TrueNicks: An Explanation Nicks in History Compatibilities between stallions from one sire line with mares of another sire line has helped shape the breed since the Eclipse/Herod cross of the late 18th century. These successful crosses, called nicks, have impacted Thoroughbred development through such examples as Hermit/Stockwell, Lexington/Glencoe, Bend Or/Macaroni, and Phalaris/Chaucer. In the modern era, the prolific Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross has produced outstanding racehorses and sires such as Kingmambo, Distorted Humor, and Elusive Quality. Fast-Forward to the 21st Century Computer databases have made it possible to measure and rate nicks, giving rise to a commercial market for such statistics. The first nick ratings offered to the public, though popular, were compromised by incomplete data and yielded results based on hypothetical rather than actual opportunity. This statistical gap was the impetus behind the development of TrueNicks. A Statistically Valid Approach Unlike other ratings that are calculated based on hypothetical opportunity within a limited group of horses, TrueNicks references the international database of The Jockey Club—the world’s most complete record of Thoroughbreds and their performance—to produce a sophisticated rating based on all starters and stakes winners on a given cross. The Statistics The TrueNicks rating is derived from two statistical elements: the Sire Improvement Index (SII) and the Broodmare Sire Improvement Index (BSII). Each figure compares the percentage of progeny stakes winners to starters.

CHURCHILL DOWNS Saturday 05/02/2015 Forecast High Partly Sunny 75 F Low Precip: 12% 54 F THE WIZARD'S CRYSTAL BALL # 3 YOCKEY'S WARRIOR (Race 2) He apparently was still feeling the effects of his monstrous victory at first asking on April 4 at Keeneland, finishing second that day. Yockey's Warrior was a mere shell of himself at Keeneland last month, setting the pace over a track surface that was extremely unkind to frontrunners and/or runners racing towards the rail. Regardless, Yockey's Warrior held on well in the stretch to salvage the place once displaced on the front end by the winner, and he was clearly second best. He projects to compete over a fairer surface today, switching to Churchill Downs while getting a huge upgrade in riders to Joel Rosario. He looms the controlling speed once again, drawing an a beneficial inside post. #3 CARVE (Race 4) He has had the misfortune of competing against Race Day not once, but twice in both of his starts off a layoff in Arkansas. In their second go-round on April 11, he gave the aforementioned runner all he could handle past midstretch, but was unable to match strides with that dual graded stakes winner when it mattered in the final yards, settling for a sharp second place finish. Carve profits immeasurably from some class relief today and the absence of Race Day as well, running in a high-end optional claiming contest. A drop in class to face similar rivals at a flat mile resulted in a going away victory as the post time favorite over this track in 2014.
