TUESDAY, 15 DECEMBER 2020 DEIRDRE TO VISIT GALILEO IN 2021 TARA STUD'S A new direction in the extraordinary odyssey of the Japanese HOMECOMING KING mare Deirdre (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}BReizend {Jpn, by Special Week {Jpn}) began on Monday when the 6-year-old left her adopted home of Newmarket to begin her stud career in Ireland. Her first mating is planned to be with Coolmore's champion sire Galileo (Ire). Bred by Northern Farm and raced by Toji Morita, Deirdre's first three seasons of racing were restricted largely to Japan, where she won five races, including the G1 Shuka Sho. She also took third in the G1 Dubai Turf on her first start outside her native country. Following her return visit to the Dubai World Cup meeting in 2019, Deirdre travelled on to Hong Kong and then to Newmarket, which has subsequently remained her base for an ambitious international campaign. facebook.com/thefloridahorse FLORIDA’S DAILY SALES DIGEST • THURSDAY, APRIL 27, 2017 SALE HEADLINES Published by Florida Equine Communications Inc. FTBOA.COM Gold Medal Colt Gets $850,000 By BROCK SHERIDAN The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company continued to showcase popular thoroughbreds Wednesday as their April Sale of 2-year-olds in training drew good numbers once again from eager buyers. For the day, 158 horses brought a total of $13,917,500 compared with 165 selling for a total of $12,323,500 at last year’s second session. The average price was $88,085, up 18% compared to 74,688 in 2016 while the median price was $41,000, compared with $45,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 25.1%; it was 27.6% last year. Fourteen horses sold for $250,000 or more, compared with eight at the corresponding session in 2016. Topping the sale so far is Hip 584, who was pur- chased for $850,000 by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Twin Creeks, Bri- dlewood and Robert La Penta. The bay colt is by Medaglia d’Oro out of the multiple graded-stakes winning mare Indian Vale, by A.P. Indy. He was consigned by Paul Sharp, agent and worked an eighth-mile in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack show. “We were fortunate enough to partner with Twin Creeks last year on [Kentucky Derby starter] Destin,” said Aron Wellman, President of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. “This year we have Bridlewood and Mr. [Robert] La Penta as partners [on Tapwrit] on what we hope will be another Derby horse in about 10 days.

MATING ANALYSIS You may submit your mare online at lanesend.com or call 859-873-7300 to discuss your matings with CHANCE TIMM, [email protected], JILL MCCULLY, [email protected] or LEVANA CAPRIA, [email protected]. WEST COAST Flatter – Caressing by Honour and Glory 2014 Bay l 16.2 Hands “An Eclipse Award winning champion, West Coast is by an outstanding sire son of A.P. Indy, out of a ChampionTwo-Year-Old Filly. West Coast earned a title as Champion Three-Year-Old Colt with five consecutive victories, four in stakes events, and ran 1-2-3 in six consecutive grade one events, including when capturing the Travers Stakes (G1) and Pennsylvania Derby (G1). He is by Flatter, a leading stallion son of A.P. Indy, and sire of more than 50 stakes winners, and out of Caressing, Champion and Breeders’ Cup (G1) winner at two.“ The offspring of West Coast will be free of Northern Dancer at four generations on their sire’s side, and Flatter has crossed well with a wide variety of broodmare sires from that line. The cross with mares from the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer has been particulary productive with seven stakes winners, including graded stakes winners Classic Point and Mad Flatter out of mares by Langfuhr and Honor Grades (who gives inbreeding to the dam of A.P. Indy), and there are also stakes winners out of mares by War Front – who appears particularly interesting here, giving inbreeding to Relaunch and a full-sister – Danzig Connection, Ghazi and Military (who would be intriguing here).

DAVID COYLE DAVID KEENELAND.COM K SUMMER 2018 27 spotlight on MIKE RYAN o call Mike Ryan just a bloodstock agent is an understatement. The 35-plus-year veteran of the Thoroughbred breeding industry tdoes far more than cherry-pick pros- pects from a sales catalog. He is also a successful breeder and pinhooker — scooping up under-the-radar yearlings to flip at a profit — a successful own- er, and a trusted adviser on everything from choosing a trainer to mating a mare. To say he excels at buying horses — well, another underestimation. Ryan has more than a flair for finding a year- ling with the right stuff.
