Maite Bezunartea, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) Maite Bezunartea obtained the master degree in Telecommunication Engineering from Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA) in 2014. She is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. Kris Steenhaut at the Department of Electronics and Informatics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). She has contributed to different projects, such as the IAPP European project Scanergy, with a focus on SmartGrids, the Flemish‐funded LH2ORA project, with a focus on using the LoRa radio technology for metering applications, and the Horizontal‐IoT project, with a focus on horizontal integration of different application and radio technologies. Her current research interests include the design, implementation and evaluation of long‐range Wireless Sensor Networks for environmental monitoring and smart grids, and their combination with more classical short‐range radio technologies for IoT applications. Josef J. Blanz, Qualcomm Josef Blanz, a principal engineer at Qualcomm, is responsible for M2M/IoT standards, related design work and interfacing to product management/engineering. In 1990 he started to design mobile radio ICs at the Center for Microelectronics, University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. 1993 he joined the Research Group for RF Communications, University of Kaiserslautern, to investigate multi‐antenna receivers for 3G. Josef joined Qualcomm 1998 initially working on smart antennas. 1999–2009 he was Qualcomm’s lead in 3GPP for radio/baseband performance. He led R&D projects on lower layer enhancements, like MIMO for HSDPA/LTE. Since 2009 he leads Qualcomm's M2M/IoT standards work. He helped creating oneM2M, serves as a Technical Plenary Vice Chair, and is Qualcomm’s oneM2M lead. Josef has 25+ years of experience in communication systems design and worked 18 years in standardization. He holds Master (Dipl‐Ing.) & Ph.D. (Dr‐Ing.) degrees in EE, both from University of Kaiserslautern, Germany.
