Mit unserem Gang an die Wiener Börse im Mai 2006 konnten wir unsere Aktionärsbasis verbreitern und unsere Finanzierungsstruktur deutlich verbessern. Der Börsengang war für uns die logische Fortsetzung in der Entwicklung des Unternehmens von einem starken, innovationsgeprägten, aber eher regional präsenten Familienunternehmen zu einem führenden Player in der internationalen Lichtindustrie. Das Geschäftsjahr 2006/07 war eines der erfolgreichsten der Zumtobel Gruppe. Getragen von unseren starken, internationalen Marken – Zumtobel und Thorn im Leuchtengeschäft und TridonicAtco im Bereich Lichtkomponenten – sind wir erneut stärker gewachsen als der Markt. Mit einem Konzernumsatz von EUR 1.234,0 Mio erreichten wir ein Wachstum von 5,6%. Besonders erfreulich ist aus meiner Sicht, dass wir in unseren definierten Wachstumsfeldern überproportional zulegen konnten, dies gilt für das regionale Wachstum in Asien und Osteuropa genauso wie für die dynamische Entwicklung unseres LED-Geschäfts. Auch mit Blick auf das Ergebnis konnten wir unsere Ziele erreichen: Der Jahresüberschuss lag bei EUR 103,6 Mio, in absoluten Zahlen das beste Ergebnis in der Geschichte der Zumtobel AG. Aber auch in relativen Zahlen konnten wir mit einer EBIT-Marge von 9,1% die operative Leistungsfähigkeit des Unternehmens deutlich verbessern. Unsere verstärkte Profitabilität ist für uns die Voraussetzung, um neues – organisches wie anorganisches – Wachstum zu finanzieren. Die europäische Leuchtenindustrie ist nach wie vor stark fragmentiert. Wir sehen die Rolle unseres Unternehmens darin, an vorderster Front die Konsolidierung des Marktes voranzutreiben. Damit wollen wir noch stärker Skaleneffekte in Kostensynergien umsetzen, unseren Innovationsvorsprung ausbauen und unsere starken Marken in neue Märkte und Anwendungsbereiche verbreitern. Im vergangenen Geschäftsjahr haben wir auch von einem positiveren Marktumfeld profitiert. So hat sich die europäische Baukonjunktur deutlich aufgehellt. Heute gehen wir davon aus, dass sich diese Entwicklung in den kommenden zwei Jahren fortsetzen wird. Für unser Geschäft sind in diesem Zusammenhang zwei Entwicklungen von besonderer Bedeutung: Zum einen die Debatte über die CO2-Reduktion. Hier arbeiten wir an neuen Technologien wie LED, intelligenten Steuerungssystemen und komplexen Lichtlösungen, die wesentlich zu einem optimierten Einsatz von Licht und Energie beitragen. Parallel dazu gibt es eine zweite Entwicklung, die nicht gegenläufig, sondern komplementär zur Energiedebatte zu sehen ist: die steigende Bedeutung von Licht für den Menschen und die gebaute Umwelt. International führende Architekten wie Hani Rashid haben die gestiegene Bedeutung von Licht für ihre Architektur längst erkannt. In seinen skulpturalen Entwürfen gehen Licht und Geometrie fließend ineinander über, feste Materialien und leerer Raum verschmelzen zu neuen räumlichen Qualitäten. Die Bürogemeinschaft Asymptote Architecture von Hani Rashid und seiner Partnerin Lise Anne Couture zählt zu der ersten Generation der Computerarchitekten, die schon zu einem sehr frühen Zeitpunkt die Schnittstellen zwischen der real gebauten Architektur und virtuellen Entwürfen erforscht und damit wertvolle Beiträge zum zeitgenössischen Architekturdiskurs geleistet haben. Allein die Ausstellungsbeiträge von Hani Rashid / Asymptote zur documenta in Kassel sowie der Architektur- und Kunstbiennale in Venedig unterstreichen den Stellenwert der Entwürfe für die Architekturavantgarde. Für Zumtobel ist die Auseinandersetzung mit den Arbeiten von Hani Rashid eine ganz zentrale Inspiration für die Weiterentwicklung unserer Lichtlösungskompetenz. International führende Architekten, auch Künstler sowie Licht- und Stadtplaner, stellen uns immer wieder vor neue Herausforderungen, geben uns Impulse bei der Entwicklung neuer Produkte und Anwendungen. Ich freue mich sehr, dass wir Hani Rashid für die künstlerische Gestaltung des vorliegenden Berichts gewinnen konnten. Ludwig Vorsitzender des Vorstands / Chief Executive Officer Foreword The 2006/07 financial year was a major milestone in the development of our company: through our IPO on the Vienna Stock Exchange in May 2006 we were able to broaden our shareholder base and secure the financial foundations we need for future growth. For us, the IPO was the logical next step in the company’s progress from a strong, innovation-led but largely regional family firm to a leading global player in the international lighting industry. The past financial year was also the most successful in the history of the Zumtobel Group. On the back of our strong international brands – Zumtobel and Thorn in the luminaire sector and TridonicAtco in the lighting components sector – we were once again able to outpace the market as a whole. With consolidated revenues of EUR 1,234.0 million, we attained a growth rate of 5.6%. One particularly pleasing aspect from my point of view was that revenues moved ahead particularly strongly in the growth segments that we defined two years ago – witness our regional growth in Asia and Eastern Europe and the dynamic development of our LED business. We also met our targets in terms of earnings: net profit for the year totalled EUR 103.6 million, which in absolute terms represents the highest profits in the history of Zumtobel AG. In relative terms too, we were able to post a further marked improvement in operating performance, returning an EBIT margin of 9.1%. The ongoing improvement in profitability is one of the most important factors in enabling us to finance new growth – both organic and external. The European lighting industry remains extremely fragmented, which offers an opportunity for our company to forge ahead with market consolidation through targeted acquisitions. Our aim in doing so is to step up the translation of economies of scale into cost synergies, build on our existing innovation leadership, and take our strong brands into new markets and applications. In the past financial year we also benefited from a more positive market environment. In the European construction sector, for example, the picture showed a marked improvement. From our current perspective we assume that this trend will continue over the next few years. In this context there are two other factors of substantial significance for our business: firstly the intense public debate on the reduction of CO2 emissions. In this respect we are working on
