WE’VE BROUGHT YOU SOME OF THE BEST NEW YORK HAS TO OFFER, SO LET YOURSELF BE TRANSPORTED TO A WHOLE DIFFERENT WORLD OF CLASS. Manhattan _ The King of Cocktails with a history as deep rooted in drinks culture as any other drink. Many stories surround the birth of this classic including probably the most widely known being that it was made for Lady Randolph Churchill, a New York socialite, in 1874 at the Manhattan club. Historians now dispute it as she was actually in England giving birth to dear old Winston at the time of this story. Our favourite is that it was simply created by a bartender called Black who kept a place ten doors below Houston Street on Broadway in the 1860s. Traditionally made using rye whiskey and a combination of vermouths. Now enjoyed with bourbons, the Manhattan is a versatile drink and most people have their own preference of whiskey and vermouth. It can also be served dry, perfect or sweet depending on your palate. Here at Manahatta we believe the best combination to enjoy this fine drink is held in a beautiful blend of Old Forester bourbon, Cocchi Torino and Angostura bitters. Made in a sweet style. £8.00 Drinks menu_Layout 1 31/10/2014 14:07 Page 3 Manahatta Bronx _ New York's pre prohibition classic. Archives at the Waldorf Astoria indicate it was invented there in the early 1900s by bartender Johnnie Solan. Our version of the cocktail contains Tanqueray gin, Cocchi Torino, Giffard dry orange curacao and Bitter Truth orange bitters. £7.25 Bloody Mary _ Whilst it is well known the Bloody Mary was invented at Harry's New York Bar in Paris it is thought that this drink made its US debut at the King Cole Bar in the prestigious St Regis Hotel Midtown Manhattan. Any bar may be judged on its Bloody Mary so in this version we mix Russian Standard vodka, tomato, citrus and a secret homemade spice mix. £6.50 A Royal Weekend at The Waldorf _ An adaptation of the New York Rum based classic which first hit the print in the 1951 publication of Bottoms Up by Ted Saucier. Rum entered the New York drinking scene during the latter stages of prohibition as other alcohol sources dried up. Once prohibition was lifted rum boomed as the Whiskey distilleries weren’t ready to cope with the volumes required. This version includes Santa Teresa Claro, Giffard dry orange curacao, lime, strawberry and prosecco. £7.00 Clover Club _ A very popular cocktail which actually pre dates prohibition and was originally named for the Philadelphia men's club who used to meet in the Bellevue Hotel. This cocktail inspired the opening of well-respected NYC joint of the same name and a must visit if in the area.
