MANHATTAN, Kan. (9/24/05) – Powered by career days from quarterback Allen Webb and running back Parrish Fisher, Kansas State (3-0, 0-0) pulled away from North Texas (1-2, 1-0) in the second quarter to top the Mean Green 54-7 at KSU Stadium. Both Wildcat backs were able to notch career best marks by halftime. Webb threw for 188 yards in the first two quarters, while Fisher set a new K-State record for rushing yards by a freshman by running for 148 yards in the first half. Webb finished the game with 256 yards and two touchdowns. Fisher ended with 169 yards on 21 carries. Mean Green running back Patrick Cobbs became North Texas’ all-time leading rusher on a 19-yard run in the second quarter. The senior, who led the nation in rushing in 2003, passed Ja’Quay Wilburn’s mark of 3,120 career yards. Wildcat place kicker Jeff Snodgrass’ 31-yard field marked the first time this season the Mean Green has allowed an opponent to score on its opening drive. K-State dominated the second quarter, scoring touchdowns on its first three possessions and on a punt return. Led by Jamario Thomas, the Mean Green offense made a late charge in the fourth quarter. The sophomore got loose on a third down run and scrambled for a season high 39 yards. Three plays later, quarterback Matt Phillips found a streaking Johnny Quinn for a 25- yard touchdown pass. The Mean Green covered 71 yards on the drive in 2:54 for the team’s first touchdown pass of the season.
