She recently earned her fourth Emmy nomination (Lead Actress in a Drama Series) for her role as country music star Rayna James in the ABC series "Nashville," which also earned Britton her first Golden Globe nomination, Britton is best-known for previously starring for five seasons on the critically acclaimed NBC series ''Friday Night Lights," for which she received two Emmy nominations as Texas high school principal, wife and mom Tami Taylor. She recently starred as Vivien Harmon on "American Horror Story," Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated series for FX, for which she received her third Emmy nomination. Television audiences also embraced Britton through her recurring roles on NBC's "The West Wing" and Fox's "24," also starring opposite Michael]. Fox in five seasons of ABC's award-winning comedy "Spin City." In the realm of film, Britton appeared in last summer's drama Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, with Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley, and is currently seen in the comedy romance The To Do List, alongside Aubrey Plaza and Andy Samberg. Receiving accolades for her starring role in Edward Burns ' acclaimed independent film The Brothers McMullen, her other feature credits include No Looking Back, Looking forKitty, The Lather Effect, The Last Winter and the Michael Bay-produced A Nightmare on Elm Street. Britton has devoted substantial time to a wide range of charitywork, with a focus on women's and children's health, and arts and education. After firsttraveling to Ethiopia a half a dozen years ago for a documentary project she was producing about Ethiopian orphans, and later visiting Ghana and Sierra Leone with the ONE campaign led by U2's Bono, Britton connected with the African Children's Choir in 2009. Today she serves as its spokesperson, traveling extensively and helping ca�alyze its mission to build schools and foster educational opportunities in seven African nations. Britton will be honored by the organization at its 2013 CharigeMakers Gala, taking place in New York Cityon November 21. Additionally Britton has worked closely with the Worldwide Orphans Foundation and its founder, Dr. Jane Aronson. Connie has always had international interests which were piqued when she studied language and culture in China as a Dartmouth student. A longtime champion of women's health and reproductive rights, Britton has spoken at rallies, in the nation's capital and otherwise lent het· voice to such organizations as NARAL and Planned Parenthood. Most recently, in the wake of stringent anti-choice legislation passed in Texas, she invoked her popular "Friday Night Lights" character with the debut of a limited-edition shirt bearing the question, ''What Wouid Tanii Taylor Do?" Proceeds from sales of the shirt will benefit Planned Parenthood. "The character Tami on 'Friday Night Lights' is a Texas woman deeply committed to her communityand to standing up for what is right for her neighbors and the people she loves," says Britton. As a celebri_tyspokesperson for Homefront Heroes Connie has hos�ed their p1·emiere in NYC, interviewed wounded warriors and traveled to Brook Army Medical Center to visit patients and host their families for dinner. Colmle also narrated a special Veteran's Day tribute in 2012 for their Micmsoft/MSN webseries. Family ties have sparked her personal involvement in several causes. Donating her time to various breast cancer charities after her mother succumbed to the disease; she has also served as Honorary National Wall< Chair for the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation, elevating awareness of the bone marrow-related disease which claimed the life of her father.
