Forgotten F1 Teams – Spyker F1 Welcome to Forgotten F1 Teams – a miniseries brought to you by Sidepodcast. We’re looking at those teams who deserve a place in the history books, whether it is for greatness, or mediocrity. Today we’re getting right up to date with our fifth team – Spyker F1. The roots of current Formula One team Force India F1 start way back in 1991 with Jordan Grand Prix. They have been through several iterations in recent times, and today we’re going to talk about just one of them. Jordan was bought by Midland F1 who were bought by Spyker. Spyker Cars are a relatively new Dutch automotive company, although the name dates back to the early 1900s. This new, modern version of Spyker was founded in 1999, and they build high performance sports cars. They did have a little motorsport experience, building and running GT cars. The key to their entrance into Formula 1 seems to be with Michiel Mol, a wealthy internet entrepreneur. He had previously sponsored Jos Verstappen, and wanted to further his involvement with the sport. His new deal saw him invest in Spyker Cars, to help them invest in F1, to the tune of over $100 million. He became their Director of F1 Racing. The deal with Midland was completed mid‐way through the 2006 season. Current drivers Christijan Albers and Tiego Monteiro were kept on, whilst the team set about trying to change their name. The regulations frown upon mid‐ season name changes, though, so Spyker stuck to being a title sponsor – Spyker MF1 Racing.

  • VII. Christijan Albers
VII. Christijan Albers 9789045212340.indd 127 26-07-17 13:42 1.

15/11/11 Design Analsis of the Lotus Seven S4 (Tpe 60) Conneions You are here: Home » Content » Design Analysis of the Lotus Seven S4 (Type 60) Design Analsis of the Lotus Seven S4 (Tpe 60) Module b: Andrew R. Barron. The design target of the Lotus Seven S4 (Type 60) was to aimed at meeting several requirements: Lower cost of production, in particular the chassis and the hand beaten aluminum panels. Reduce the time of manufacture from the 12 hours for the Series 3. Find a market to a wider owner base with improved driver comfort and weather protection. Compete with sports cars from major manufacturers, such as MG Midget and Triumph Spitfire Provide a first step on the ladder of Lotus ownership. Take advantage of the 1970s “beach buggy” craze. The success of the design of the Seven S4, and the choice of various components, should be considered with regard to these goals. As such the S4 was a rather clever piece of design that largely overcame the cost problems of the Seven S3. Chassis and bod Although the Peter Lucas designed chassis of the Type 60 Seven S4 is basically a tubular frame design, it is significantly simplified as compared to the proceeding Seven models. Using steel square upper and lower side tubes with triangulation and cross members with square steel tubes, the main chassis was simple in design (Figure 1 (#id3640890) ). A rear frame was made from round tubular steel. The upper rear chassis doubled as the attachment point for the fuel tank, the seat belts, and the body to the chassis.

The Chapman Report Published by the Golden Gate Lotus Club www.gglotus.org September 2006 Monterey And Pebble editor August is the Big month for classic car afficianados. I got to a few of the events, Monterey Historics on Satur- day, and the Pebble Beach Concours on Sunday. I missed the Concorso Italiano, the auctions and the rest. I should have ‘put the arm’ on members that attended other events to get their photos and stories. I could have gone to the auctions, but my wife and daughter ganged-up on me; ‘no more cars’. Yes, this was found and photographed at the Goodwood Revival races, but we can only hope that this design will be seen at our local tracks in the future. I, myself, was able to shift all the way up to fourth......doesn’t appear to have a 5th or 6th gear.....maybe in the next rev. Anyway, this does symbolize a technological break- through that can only hint at the possibilities that we may see in the future. Not only is it the last one of the year, but also my last as your Editor. I hope you have enjoyed reading the magazine over 04 Sunshine Coast Run the last two years and that you have appreciated the improvements that I have made during my 06 DTC at Lakeside tenure. N U L L A T E N A C I I N V I A E S T V I A SPYKER C8 AILERON (CHASSIS NUMBER 0250) Crafted for individuals When Spyker was founded in 2000 after an absence of 75 years, we adopted the axiom “Nulla tenaci invia est via” - for the tenacious no road is impassable -. This axiom was fi rst introduced in 1914 when Spyker merged with the Dutch Aircraft Factory N.V. On that occasion Spyker introduced its new logo as we use it today, consisting of an aircraft propeller and a wire wheel. The axiom has held true for Spyker ever since its introduction in 1914 and in particular since 2000. Getting to the point where we are today has been a massive undertaking, but so rewarding. Nine years into a our young history and we introduce our second generation car: the Spyker C8 Aileron. The Spyker C8 Aileron’s design is heavily inspired by Spyker’s aviation heritage, as was the case with all previous models, but with a clear emphasis on the second generation aircraft propulsion: the turbine rather than the propeller that adorned so many elements of the fi rst generation cars. Similarly the “Aileron” name pays tribute to that aviation heritage, it is the device that makes an aircraft turn and symbolises the turning point that the Aileron is for Spyker. Spyker has built a reputation for itself in the past 9 years for its engineering perfection, its unique design and its craftsmanship. Handcrafted in the same tradition as the earlier Spykers by the best craftsmen of our time, using bespoke materials only.
