O It has been a long-standing tradition to host a cartoon program event here in Munich. Munich is just the right venue: the local television stations and producers, special service providers for VFX and animation, the renowned University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) as well as other elite universities and, last but not least, an active and innovative games industry make Munich a first class location for animation film and television productions in Germany. The State of Bavaria with its film funding program run by the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF Bayern) contributes highly towards maintaining this leading position. The FFF Bayern disburses funding totaling 33 million — 4.7 million € of this funding is specifically allocated to the technically highly demanding and staff-intensive VFX and animation services and to international co-productions. In addition, there is a program that is dedicated to the games industry in Bavaria. This program will be further extended in the following years, and other media innovations will also be funded in future. As our world is increasingly connected, Cartoon Digital this year will address how new media and new uses have transformed the way children engage in programs and brands. We will look into the strategies of animation producers, game companies, digital publishers, global broadcasters as well as VoD and SVoD platforms and how they benefit from these new opportunities. Case studies, new initiatives and hot topics like VR and AR will show a variety of new ideas for animation programs. We are particularly glad about the high caliber line-up of international speakers from Europe, the USA and Mexico. Our common goal is to create an environment in which creative ideas can arise and find their audiences. I hope you all have an interesting and successful experience in attending this seminar! 4 Marc Vandeweyer General Director of CARTOON ver the years Cartoon Digital has always tried to enlighten animation producers on the new developments in the digital world that can impact the writing, production, financing and distribution of their O animated TV series and animation films. And for this last Cartoon Master of the year, we have convened a prestigious line-up of 26 forward-thinking speakers from Europe, the USA and Mexico to explain how animation producers can benefit from providing multiple content to multiple platforms. Embracing the challenges led by the new ways kids consume programmes and expect to be entertained today will feature high on the agenda. We will look in particular at how leading broadcasters are creating new online programmes and also how animation producers are re-focusing their activities to integrate online routes to expand their brands and monetize their content better. The significant offer provided by Video, VoD and SVoD platforms in Europe, the USA and Mexico will also be a focus of this year’s edition with real case studies attached. New synergies, partnerships with publishers, game companies and creative play leaders like LEGO and Ravensburger will offer food for thought whilst Virtual reality and Augmented reality the hot topics of the year will be largely presented. We wish to thank our long-standing partners Creative Europe/MEDIA and Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft und Medien, Energie und Technologie here in Munich for their support to animation professionals. We wish participants a great event where we hope you will acquire new skills, enlarge your networking base and fine-tune your digital projects. 5 INFORMATION Eurostars Grand Central Vi Vadi Hotel Alter Hof Paulaner Im Tal 6 THE VENUE ORGANISATION COMMITTEE Eurostars Grand Central **** Arnulfstr. 35 CARTOON 80636 Munich Marc Vandeweyer Yolanda Alonso T (49) (89) 516 57 40 Joëlle Kesenne Julie Liamin Hélène Mambourg Stéphanie Siegels Fouzia Arrouj Elodie Wattiaux Av.
