We are excited to welcome the event back to Tasmania after over a decade, with the last Nationals event being held at Lake Barrington in 2009 - it really has been too long between visits. This week-long event is a celebration of team work, athleticism and leadership, with rowers from all around the country taking part in a number of different events across the week. Comprising a full competition schedule, the Australian Rowing Championships will welcome athletes of all ages, from school rowers to Olympians and Paralympians. The Championships is a significant event for Tasmania, with 4 500 anticipated attendees from across Australia, generating visitor expenditure and benefiting our local economy. The Tasmanian Government, through Events Tasmania, is proud to support this much-loved event in 2021 which will comprise of the Australian Open Rowing Championships, Australian Open Schools Rowing Championships and the King’s and Queen’s Cups Interstate Regatta. Notably, this event celebrates the Centenary of the Queen’s Cup, which is awarded to the Interstate Women’s Eight Champions. This year’s regatta will also include a special exhibition, which celebrates the achievements of women in rowing over the last hundred years. Just half an hour from Devonport and the scenic North West, and a gateway to the Cradle Mountain Wilderness World Heritage Area, Lake Barrington is the perfect place to begin exploring Tasmania. Rowing is one of the Australia’s oldest and most successful sports, recognised as much for its tradition and appeal to athletes of all ages as for its fantastic health benefits. Rowing is a cornerstone Olympic sport and Australian rowing has a long and proud history of success, consistently returning multiple medals at major international competitions. Rowing is a part of Australia’s national sporting and cultural heritage, with international success dating back to 1867 when Edward “Ned” Trickett won Australia’s first ever sporting World Championship.
